Because I just didn't have enough ways to use up paper already
Tuesday, 04 January 2011 22:58:16

I don't know If I ever told anybody this but I quite like origami. Recently i've been doing other sorts of papercrafting, with a sideline in trying to make it as a saleswoman of assorted papercrafting pretties, but as all that is rather bulky I couldn't take it with me when I went to folks for the Christmas period. So pack my origami folder I did and after making a few spirals and fireworks and snowflakes and contemplating making a koi carp (scareily hard looking) I looked around for new ideas - and came across Senbazuru. The idea is you fold 1000 cranes and string them together into garlands, and if you manage it within the year it is meant to bring good fortune. Theres a very lovely but sad story attached if you look it up. As I like nothing more than making things hard for myself I promptly bought a pack of 1000 papers on ebay and set about making the cranes. I reasoned I'd need to make just over two strings of forty cranes per month to stay on track. I made my first one at 1am January 1st 2011 - whilst a trifle drunk (I named him Frasier) - and as of this evening I've made sufficient for 3 strings. I'd pat myself on the back if my fingers weren't so damn sore. Anyway, that is what i'm doing with myself nowadays. Off to make some more cranes.

INDIGO is not dead, folks! The story will be coming back soon, as my Muse has finally decided to return home and is currently rearranging the cushions. I knew I shouldn't be trying to write four stories at once ...

Hate it, when that happens. First I kill the computerkeyboard, next my internetconnection is gone for a while and now that I finally got it all back and together: writersblock. oh yes, this is gonna go great... Think I'm gonna shoot my muse. Politely. Luv, Da Bard

I am planning...

I am planning a Firefly&Serenity/Castle crossover and have done lots of research reacquainting myself with facts about Firefly canon; including making my own map of the 'Verse out of words and the known facts since I didn't know about the Atlas at the time. I'm going to view the map in the Atlas though as more like a guideline than the actual canon rule; the show and movie are the rules so I don't have to worry about including some small and unimportant town that someone bought on the internet as if they were buying their own star; no offense. Too many rules mess with good and proper plot bunnies and we can't have that.

Describing Myself Using Firefly's Main Characters
Tuesday, 18 January 2011 10:57:08

I am genial like Kaylee and like her have never killed a person. Also sometimes I'm sentimental over animals and amateur art. I say strange things that a rare few understand like River often does. I am proper like Simon. I am dedicated to God more than Book but I care about my friends just as much as he did. I am direct like Mal is most of the time and I say most because I don't use a weapon to make my point. I am quite stubborn like Jayne. I can amuse myself and others with my imagination like Wash, only I never intentionally say anything that I believe would hurt someone. Like Inara, sometimes I don't want to know all of the details. I am loyal like Zoe is.

I think that it is time for firefly to be reborn.the fact is that people want to have something that they get and the firefly world is something that every person on this earth will understand for it is all of our hardships and our joy and we love it ...

Cancerland Departures-Peter Freundlich
Wednesday, 19 January 2011 07:30:58

just a minute ago, I received an update to a blo I had subscribed to. It was/is called "Esoph's Fables" and was written by Journalist Peter Freundlich. Cnn's Anderson Cooper recommended the blog, something, he says, he normally never does. But Peter was a friend and an interesting character, as I was to find out and so I looked the blog up and subscribed. Peter labeled his Blogentries as "Letters Home from an American expatriate in Cancerland" as he was suffering from cancer of the Esophagus. He dealt with his ailment with humor and sarcasm and a bit of the crabbiness of an old man thrown in. Despite the serious reason that prompted them to be written, they were a joy to read. He wrote when he could, for a while he lost interest but returned to his dispatches after a breather. Then he moved to what he called "Radiation City" This mornings dispatch was written by one of his sons, as Peter departed Cancerland and America from his New York home, the door to the pavement garden wide open and his cat with him. I had never met this man, had to google who he was, but I loved reading his blog. Now I sit here crying over an old man from the other side of the world who never knew I existed but had become a sort of friend over the course of a year. If I ever were to become a citicen of cancerland myself, all I can hope for is to bear my stay there the way Peter Freundlich did: with humor and sarcasm and a dose of crabbiness. From the way he sounded in the last dispatch about a month ago, he had hoped to be around a while longer and maybe make it back to the "robust and healthy United States". Today's Blog entry ended with the words: Quote: "Don’t unsubscribe yourselves from Esoph’s Fables just yet. We’ll let you know when next we hear from him."

Reposting Stories?
Saturday, 22 January 2011 18:06:43

So I've been avoiding putting up blog posts, but I guess it's silly to pretend that I'm not back here and involved on Fireflyfans. I'll start my first blog post after my break away with a question. Before I took my break, I deleted all my stories on fireflyfans in a fit of stress-induced craziness. But a lot of the people I talk to around here don't like fanfiction.net (with good reason, the pop-ups are ridiculous and sometimes the ads contain malware), and would prefer to read stories on here. I'm not asking anyone to even reread or comment, because I think I've pretty much forfeited rights to comments after deleting all the nice ones I had. But how would people feel about me reposting a story or a chapter, like maybe at a rate of once a week? Particularly you other authors out there, since my posting would affect you most of all, what with the main page "most recent stories" list and such.

Guess who has two thumbs and is the new conductor of the South Georgia Community Orchestra
Monday, 24 January 2011 21:48:03

*Points to self with thumbs* "This guy!" That's right, I'm restarting the community Orchestra! It will be the first time I'm completely in charge of a performing group (I graduated from College last year) and I'm eagerly looking forward to rehearsals. It's strictly voluntary, not a paying gig, so I'm still looking for more work wherever I can find it, but this is a great way to give back to the community and could help me build a name for myself, leading to paying jobs relevant to my Major! I'm quite excited! If there are any browncoats livin' in south Ga (nearish Thomasville area) who have an old horn of fiddle and would like to take it up again with friendly folks, I'll be happy to provide information on location and rehearsal times and answer any other questions.

Happy Birthday to me!

NewOldBrownCoat, born January 27, 1951. Yepper, made it to the big Six-Oh, baby... I hope to be celebrating my 70th here, commenting on the several-th Firefly movie or season of the new Firefly TV show.

I went crazy... But I didn't fall down

An age and a half ago, I wrote about how I'd never participate in Firefly RP again. Well, a good friend and fellow RP player made a liar out of me. I started Bordertown over on Storycrafter.com and we're going on a year now this March. One of the major things I changed about starting an RP was eliminating the "Persephone Boarding Day" element. In live table RP, that might be okay to start, but I've found in PBP RP all it did was cause trouble. The format involved managing several threads at one time, with me playing the captain and requesting developmental interaction in each one. It worked so well that we merged into the actual plot of the RP without anyone being the wiser. Some of you might remember Rene Cariveau from Heartbroken. Well I took the good Cajun Captain and went a ways off with him. He still has Zirondelle, but a few other things have changed. I have to say it's been fun, and it sure makes me miss Firefly less. The engines might miss a little, and it could maybe use a little polish, but my corner of the 'verse is still flying. Come find us on Storycrafter.com. If you're interested, sit a spell and stay awhile. There's a lot more on the way.

Hello, Again!

It has been a long time since I’ve felt like writing. I slapped together “To Err is Human” just to get something up. Rushed through the opening of “The Fear of Being Alone” simply to post ANYTHING, and as a result was extremely unhappy with both. My work hours began to be cut in March and by June I was laid off…and have been unemployed since then despite near constant job hunting. In fact I haven’t even gotten a single call back….much less an interview. I lost a number of people whom I had thought of as good friends and the simple fact is that I lost interest in a lot of things. Drawing, sewing, knitting, crocheting, embroidery, cooking, reading…and Writing. I have taken down “To Err is Human” and “The Fear of Being Alone” and I am working on fixing them, making them something I don’t feel ashamed of. And I am not certain that I will ever put “To Err” back up again….it is proving to be a very difficult re-write. Anyway, Hi! I’ve missed you all!

More good news in the quest for employment! :-)

I've been hired as a tutor by a government funded program geared towards tutoring children with autism of military families and helping them socialize, work and relate better with people. It's gonna take a little while, perhaps a month and some change to really get off the ground, but the flexible scheduling allows me to continue my work with the community resource kids, run the community orchestra and make money comparable to a teacher's starting salary. Also, I'll get to teach 1 on 1 and focus directly on the student who needs help the most! I can't tell you how much it broke my heart knowing a child needed help but not being able to give them what they really need on account of having 25 other students to deal with when I was student teaching. In this program I'll get to focus my attention and really make a difference! It's about time my Music Ed degree actually found me full time work! I can't wait to get started!

It's up!
