It's not like I am obsessed with "Serenity" and "Firefly" these days, but as the movie approaches, more and more things show up before my eyes and ears that remind me of it. Cases in point: 1. I opened a Victoria's Secret shoe catalog yesterday (yes, VS sells shoes too, boys!) and there, on page 3, I read: [b]FRYE[/b] shearling boot. I mean, what are the chances? I know a lot of people are planning Shindigs and other special celebrations for the Serenity Premiere, so I wanted to mention that The Bedlam Bards are as of yet available to perform at Firefly celebrations for a modest fee. We're the ones who created the Ballad of Joss, Big Damn Trilogy, and many other Firefly-inspired songs that wowed the crowds at Dragon*Con. We're currently working on an album of Firefly-inspired music called _On the Drift_, some of which will be featured in the Browncoat documentary, _Done the Impossible_. I lay awake at night, disturbed by visions of invading evildoers and their designs on my town, when appeared to me such a vision -- it was Master Joss! Lo, and Joss declared unto me, "Who is thine enemy, that I may smite them with pestilence and boils and such." "Hark!" I replied, "Verily, mine enemies come unto Columbus with design on smashing thy loyal servant's Buckeyes!" "And what name dost thou give thine enemy?" "I name my enemy Texas Longhorns." "They have not a chance," Joss assured me, "For thine Buckeyes shall crush these Longhorns, and those from the accursed region shall wail in despair, and there shall be much plucking of beards and gnashing of teeth." "Verily, thou art a wise and just ruler," I responded. "Is there anything my lord requires of me for this victory you have promised?" "No, my son," Joss said in a reassuring voice. "But fail not in the ingestion of as much fermented beverage as necessary in order that thou mayest taunt thine enemies upon their fall." And it was good.

Is it bad that I don't really consider myself a Browncoat? Mostly everyone on here kind of seems to take that side, but I never have felt a real compelling urge to take the Independence side. I identify more with Jayne who is kind of neutral, but loyal to who is in control of his livelihood. I actually don't really see Mal as being that hell-bent on taking out the Alliance either, at least not in the show. Of course, he isn't content with their having won, but he is at most content to fly "under the radar" and do his best to ignore them. The trailers do show him maybe rekindling some of his war motives. At any rate, even though I do feel like I'm part of the show and dedicated to its protagonists, I don't really feel dedicated to their cause. Maybe for me the real charm that the show brings isn't that the goal is to destroy the enemy--it's just to avoid it and get by in a kind of sub-universe that the rest of the world is either ignorant of or irked by. The interaction with the Reavers is very similar, and it sparks an interesting point that the whole Firefly phenomenon is a similar sort of sub-Universe. Anyone else have some thoughts on this?
