This damned thing has more sequels than Star Trek. Sheesh. Hubby heard thunder last night. I only heard the wind. We awoke to 3 more feet. I almost cried. No sign of this stopping much before Monday. The tractor won't start so we have to shovel. We have run out of places to put the white stuff. It is a good thing that snow has an excellent 'R' value because I can't get it all off the roof. The town brought in a big orange highway plow to clear our access road (300 feet of not technically driveway). They got stuck (briefly) on the way out. I must admit it was pretty cool watching them move all that fluffy stuff at one time. We are now out of cheesecake. :banghead: Must make more. I started a batch of home brew. Called the family to let them know we're still alive and keeping warm. Work has pretty much written me off for the week. The Today show was about ten miles north of us filming this morning. How they got there remains a mystery since the major highway has been closed and reopened more times than Inara's robes. :blush: My son is still cute any my husband is still a source of warmth. There, life looks better. :smile: That, and it's too dark to see what outside looks like. :biggrin:

So the assh*le and the skank have remarried. Tee hee hee. Marry in haste repent at leisure. I am tickled freakin pink every month when himself has to write me a check for half the Navy retirement. I know it bugs the hell out of the skank. She tried to get back at me by getting new mail labels that have her as Mrs Tracy Lake above himselfs name - she put one on the envelop with the latest check. Didn't bug me at all - vindictive beatch that I can be, I got mail labels that say "Mrs Tracy Lake (the original and mother of the children)" and sent a picture of me and the kids smiling and waving to her. I am a bitch and I should be ashamed!

TAMSIBLING

I realize this update is a little late in coming, but so many things have been happening, it's been hard to get my thoughts together. I have started graduate school at the University of Southern California as a Professional Writing Master's candidate, and so far, it's been really fun! I've met some really interesting people and I feel like I've been able to do some good work. My move to Los Angeles was fairly uneventful - as cross-country moves go and I'm really enjoying my new home in Southern California! I was lucky enough to head out here already knowing some folks and I have to say those friends have been a lifeline for me and made everything so much easier to handle.

I'm sort of big into astronomy and I was wondering if for a moment, consider Firefly's star system was some star system relatively close to our solar system. Since humabs left Earth and went into space, and they don't have faster-than-light capability, has anyone wondered what star system they could have traveled to? Joss Whedon never said where they went, so I have two candidate star systems they could have gone to. One is Sirius, a hot white star, and if it had planets, it could have a large biozone where several Earth-like planets could queeze inside. Maybe groups of planets - binary, trinary, or rosette orbits where several lareg terrestrial worlds orbit eachother around a common center of gravity like Pluto and Charon for instance. Sirius at only 8.6 light years away could have been traveled to by humans of Earth within a hundred years or so. I don't know how fast their arc ships actually traveled but I think by the year 2517 they had plenty of time to get there and establish a society. If the 'verse has multiple stars as some (like me) suggest, my next pick would be the multiple Xi Scorpii system, which has three F-type yellow-white stars, similar to Sol, albiet smaller, brighter and hotter, that are relatively close to each other - appx 42 to 320 AU's between them. The system has two other stars which two are F-type (orange) dwarfs, although 8000 AU's apart (only 0.13 ly), and at least a red dwarf as well. These could possibly hold planets. Only problem is Xi Scorpii is about 90.2 light years away and would take Humans an eternity to reach unless their arc ships, although sub-light, achieved speeds close to that of light. I think a ship could travel as much as 70% the speed of light before the effects of time-dilation and critical mass begin to affect the crew. At that speed it would take about 130 - 150 years or so to reach the system, and still give them about 250 - 300 years to terraform and establish a society there. That would also say they left Earth around the year 2093 - 2193 or so if they only had 200 years to set up society.

So TamSibling has very politely ordered my to update my blog, and since I'm at work doing nada, I figured I would humor her. Let's see: I attended the Big Damn NonCon AKA Flan B AKA the Browncoat Backup Bash this past December. And it was AMAZING. Seriously, one of the best weekends of my life, and I'm incredibly grateful to Leiasky, Leighkohl, TamSibling and the evil D-Man for, well, everything. Where to start? I got to meet Tim Minear, which was pretty damn shiny since I'm sort of "in the awe" over him. ("Are you now or have you ever been...?" kind of blew my mind with the wonderful.) Also met Nathan, which didn't exactly suck either. ;) I hugged Alan (yay!), shook hands with Adam (that man is very tall!) and got a hug from Michael Fairman. Conversation with Michael~ TamSibling and I: We saw your Hallmark commercial and it was kind of disturbing, seeing you interact with a child. You are so scary on Firefly. (I'm paraphrasing here; I swear we sounded marginally cooler than this.) Michael: How often do you watch the episodes? Me: Way too often. Michael: Take a break. Put them aside for awhile, it won't seem so scary. Anyway, the whole weekend was wonderful and amazing and all that. I met some very cool Browncoats (no surprise there) that I have kept in touch with, and overall the experience was just very very shiny. LA was a great time--the whole city is full of Browncoats, right? That wasn't just for the Con, was it?--and I'm trying to move out there. I'll keep y'all updated on my progress. so, i had a weird dream. i was dating a guy and we're making ramen noodles...then it's the next day and my friend steve asks me about the guy. i said we just had dinner, then he asked more about the "dinner" but i couldn't remember. I was drugged by the blond shaggy haired boy i had dinner with. Nothing bad happened to me, just drugged. And when steve and i go to investigate. When we found the ramen noodles, they were bright pink, and apparently i didn't eat them. Odd. My dreams are always so strange. i don't know a blond shaggy haired boy and i most certainly don't eat pink ramen noodles.

But first...the Mom Update. Mom was feeling well enough to go out shopping earlier this week...and apparently overdid it a bit. The pain went back up, so the pain meds went up and that brough back some of the nausea. :crap: She's slowing coming back, though and felt well enough to talk on the phone for awhile yesterday. I'm staying down this weekend as I've another rutting cold which has decided my sinuses are a shiny place to roost. :knife: And now....the GBBC! Yeah, I'm gonna take a bit of time and space here to help plug something fun and free, but not FF/S related but if you like to watch the birds, this is for you. The National Audubon Society with Cornell University sponsers a yearly event in the US and Canada called the Great Backyard Bird Count. They are trying to get ideas of numbers and types of birds for well, every state and providence they can and they ask for the public's help in this. The event is next weekend (Feb 16-19, 2007) and open to everyone who wants to help. It only takes a few minutes (at least 15 minutes per day)to help out. Last year was my first time and I had fun...even when trying to count up the 2 dozen+ sparrows bouncing all over my balcony. I may resort to taking a picture and counting it as still life. :wink: More info is at this site:
