The good and bad of my day... I had an appointment at the hospital today, an eye appointment. You know, where they use those feckin' horrid drops that blow out your irises to the size of Texas and then shine huge gigantic lights in them so that if you weren't blind before you certainly are after it. This is a clinic whose appt letter says "because of the nature of our clinic you may face waits of over two hours". So... ugh. Anthony and I sat there making fun of everyone in and around the waiting room, but mostly the doctors. 'Cause it's their fault we're waiting so long. And, no, it didn't take two hours, only one and a half. *AND* we were the very last people in the waiting room. Seriously. The nurse came out and asked my name, I felt like saying "why? How many more folders are *there*?", but I was nice. I was also fully expecting her to reply "I'm pretty sure you're next, let me go check", because I'm a smart arse and that's what I would have said. But she didn't. Anyways, after that we went to the diabetes center across the road to drop off the final paper work for my insulin pump (oh, the saga of this. I've had to jump through so many hoops to get this done, it's not funny, that in itself is a whole different log). And she says to me "there's been a problem". Ohhhhhh, this is where I nearly wept. She explained that the insurance companies have now put an official embargo on ordering the insulin pumps because the hospitals want to actually get paid for the service and the insurance companies don't want to pay them. (how dare they want to get paid for their work... the selfish money grubbing thieves!

I have a theory that the old guy in "Shindig" that Inara says this line to (the one in the title) is the companion version of Hugh Hefner. Yes, he is the 70+-year-old pimp that got Inara her first gig. Anyone else got a theory? (yeah I know what it means, but a pimp can be an old friend too!)

Today i watched The Message, and u know wat? i watched it to have fun, but then immediatly afterwards i went back and watched it just for the music, cos the music at the end of the epsiode is the greatest ever, it really touched me.

QUICKSAND

First, I don't like that I'm seeing so few ads. I know, I know, I'd complain anyway: there have been movies this year that had way TOO MANY ads and drove me crazy. But Serenity is good enough to handle it. Right? What makes a good trailer? a) Interesting characters. b) Good lines. c) A hint at the action. Now, the problem with this is, you get one trailer with one or two examples of each, and then it's repeated, ad nauseum. If a movie is actually good enough to be worth watching, it will have so many examples of the above that when you see a 2nd trailer (or even a third), there's more to feast your eyes upon. And no, I don't mean, one trailer making a movie look like action, and another to make it look like romance ("Into the Blue" anyone?). An actual trailer that's more heavy on the movie and less so on the "STARRING BOB JONES" graphics ("Bloodrayne" anyone?). "Serenity" obviously has all of these things, and while most movies cap out at 2-4 leads, we get nine. So we're set. And I think we may break the record for quotable lines in a film, though that's a tall order. I can't wait to find out. Oh, and there's lots of action. Second, I saw the international poster, and it's about eighty times cooler than the domestic one. What the hell? Someone needs to fix this. It's like the entirety of American movie execs have NO IDEA how to market a movie without Tom Cruise in it. Are Americans really so shallow that they'll only go to a movie based on who's in it, rather than actual content and story? Don't answer that. Third, and no one remembers this, but there were people who mocked the Star Wars trailer, and I mean the ORIGINAL Star Wars trailer in 1977. I wasn't there or anything, but I heard Mark Hamill talk about it in an interview. Nothing like that had ever been attempted before... well, not for a very long time (Star Wars, 1977. Forbidden Planet, 1956) ... so it's easy for the average joe to mock Sci-Fi. But when it's done well, it becomes EXTREMELY popular... this goes ditto for fantasy (as in, like, "Willow," "Legend," or oh, gee, I don't know, "The Lord of the Rings"). There's a certain percentage of people who are followers, and whereas a part of me doesn't want them messing with something as sacred at Firefly, the exposure of Joss is ultimately good for all of mankind (and womankind, and boykind, and girlkind. ... dogkind and catkind will be fairly indifferent). Anyway, the Star Wars thing made me smile. I'm only minorly worried about people who, on 9/30, will opt to see "Just Like Heaven" a second time, or "Corpse Bride." The movie will get good reviews, and everyone has to remember: if you read a reviewer giving Serenity BAD reviews, you must have the discipline to BOYCOTT THAT REVIEWER FOREVER. It won't be easy, but you must keep in mind that this person therefore has horrible taste and cannot be trusted, ever. Um........ that was all, I haven't written in a blog in months and this is why. As many times as I've watched the Firefly series I only very recently started noticing the Blue Sun emblems all over the place, and being male--one who never pays attention to clothes, well except for the fact that Jayne keeps changing shirts in the rehearsal scene of "Ariel"-- I never noticed that it was on Jayne's shirt. So today as I was watching "Ariel" for the something-th time, I realized why River slashes him in the chest. She is slashing the emblem out of her somewhat bewildering (to her) obsession with the hands of blue, etc. How did this not dawn on me, and will someone make me feel better by acknowledging that I just now pointed that out to you too?? PLEASE ??

My mom and dad are great. When I arrive home this afternoon after running my resume around town, I change my IM status to something that shows I’m here, but not necessarily open to grand discussions. First my mother pings me, asking what on earth it could mean. I explain it is a rather funny scene from the web comic Scary Go Round (btw you have to read it, it’s hilarious, not all geeky like our other faves, but very funny). She does her mom laugh and asks about the Serenity premier (yay mom!). Not a minute later my dad IMs me. It auto replies with the message…and he, quick as can be, replies ,‘Whoa! Your message got mis-delivered.’ I had to chuckle. I imagine all things my dad now must be picturing in his mind. I go thru the same explanation to him. He sighs and tells me he thought it might have been a story about a bachelorette party gone bad. He’s anxious to start work assembling the cardboard twg for Serenity Squared. We chat for a bit. As he signs off I suddenly notice his icon…a picture of him from a show he did a few years ago…he was singing YMCA dressed as the cop. Now that’s confidence! A man allowing the world to see him doing the YMCA in full 70s Village People attire. Hmm, wherever do I get it? Did I mention mom and dad are performing in the same revue this year…this time as Sonny and Cher…mom as Sonny and dad as Cher…He looks gorgeous in the wig!

I still can't believe that I have actually seen the show, seems like a dream to me. Got pinched in the arm and did not wake up:wink: Ok, missed the Kirkland screening but had the pleasure of meeting two fellow Browncoats before the show for dinner in style - dim sum. Hey all, Excited for the movie? I am! Cept fandango.com hasn't got tickets on sale yet, but oh well. I also am just wanting to say how very kind everyone has been to me since I joined this beautiful site (thank you Mr. or Mrs. Haiken). I am wondering, however, where the "Can't stop the signal" quote came from? Sorry, I should probably know this. I am trying to get people converted at my school to see Serenity the 30th, but a lot of people seem to make smart remarks about Firefly and such and I feel somewhat hurt because I can't say anything back. Sorry for taking up bloggy space! P.S. I really appreciate you for taking the time to read this if you did.
