Why Is She Mad?
Friday, June 10, 2005 1:03 PM
My wife in I got in a quasi-heated conversation about my tickets to the BDM advance screening. She said "Are we meeting someone there?" I said "Yes, a woman called CallMeSerenity. I said I'd get a ticket for her."She humphs and looks away disgustedly. So, I have to ask: "What? What are you mad about?"
"What am I mad about? You're talking to women on the INTERNET and not telling me about it, and you're giving tickets to them."
"First off, I am not giving anyone anything. I am selling her a ticket at face value. Second, I hardly ever talk to her, we just talked today so we could coordinate and try to get tickets. That's all."
"Is Weird Girl going to be there?"
"I sincerely doubt it. She lives elsewhere. And what does that matter?"
"I just don't like it. Are we making a profit off the extra tickets?"
"NO! I would never do that! There are scalpers charging at least 50$ a ticket on the internet. I'm not that guy!"
"But, we could make some money."
"No. Doesn't the fact that people are price gouging advance screening tickets to a movie they know people are desperate to see bother you?"
She sits in contemplative silence for a moment. I know that the next few moments are crucial, or I could end up having a very bad night.
"Yes, it bothers me. You're right. Its not right that people are doing that." She said, grudgingly. You see, my wife loves money, but she loves what's right too. She knows I'm right about this.
And, as for the other thing. When my internet came back up, my AIM signed on automatically. Of course there were a few Browncoat names on there...Lochravin was one...ThatWeirdGirl was another. Now, no matter how I try to explain it, she just won't understand that I'm not trying to "get with" ThatWeirdGirl. She's just a friend.
To my wife, ThatWeirdGirl is someone that I met on the internet talking about Firefly (My wife likes Firefly, but only likes...She has a different view of fandom. She doesn't obssess or tlk endlessly about it.) something I dearly love, and to my wife's view, Weirdess must be someone I have more in common with than her. I think its a strange way of looking at things. I like ThatWeirdGirl...she's one of the nicest, strangest, and well, best people I've ever met on the internet, but she is a friend. I know she sees things the same way. And, the both of us are in committed relationships with people that we truly care about.
Also, for some reason I have to explain to my wife that I'm pretty sure she's the only one on the face of the earth that finds me attractive. There have been times when I've gone to the bar, come home, and had to answer this question "Were there girls there?"
Well, of course there were. But to them, I'm that lump on the barstool. I take a passive stance in the bar...I won't harass you, you certainly won't talk to me, so I'll sit here and get drunk, and never the twains shall meet.
My wife. I love her dearly, and with all my heart. She's the mother of my children, and my partner...I'll say it again...partner. As I go through life, she's the one next to me, making me feel better about what's bad, sharing what's good, and constantly providing challenges that make life interesting. And, when she isn't sharing the good, she's making the good herself.
And, lastly on the CMS thing. I said "Yes, we'll be meeting her at the theater...We will. You'll be standing right next to me...You jealous shit!"
Hey, can't let her have the upper hand forever, can I?
