Brenda: I was in elementary school, grade school to you SIX when KISS came out and everyone was listening to them. Bryan Adams a good Canadian came out when I was in high school so listened to him. At one time as I said when Gordon Lightfoot died, when I was a child you couldn't turn on a radio without hearing at least one of his songs. Got into the Beatles just as they were breaking up. Love John Lennon and George Harrison as solo artists. A friend from High School was big into Country music back then so I picked up a tolerance for it more. But now it is a little Alan Jackson, Tim McGraw, the Toby Keith. Alabama was big when I was in high school too. - http://www.fireflyfans.net 08.10 02:59 |

6ixStringJack: Then I listened to a lot of rap music in my late teens and early 20's because it was what the people I hung out with listened to and we all had obnoxious speaker systems rattling the trunks of our cars and giving us back massages and blowing out our eardrums. One day I woke up and stopped listening to that almost entirely because I realized I couldn't actually relate to any of it and it wasn't made for me. What did I know about life in the hood?

| 6ixStringJack: I'm pretty wide open outside of the Pop music from the last 20 years or so. I've never been a fan of country music either, which kind of surprises me because my step-dad loved it and listened to it when I was in that age range, even though my mom couldn't stand it either. But by that time, all the kids growing up around me in the Chicago suburbs looked at country like "old people" music and I really went with the flow back then. | Brenda: That does make sense. A friend of my mum's when I was a child would only listen to classical music. The lady I work for who is into her 70s will listen to a little bit of country but not much even though she grew up with rock and such. But her and her husband are highly religious and that has an affect on them. As to me I will listen to classical and a bit of country & western but I like mostly rock. Beatles and Kiss. I can handle a little of the older stuff like Chubby Checker and Fats Domino but not much. | 6ixStringJack: I've read that the music we listen to when we are young through our mid teens is pretty much the music we enjoy the rest of our lives. Something about tribe mentality that is part of our DNA, coupled with the fact that we didn't tend to live much beyond 30 years old in those very early days. That would seem to track for the most part. I don't know too many 40 or 50 year olds who listen to anything new on the radio today, and I've also known people who never listened to anything that was Pop music because their parents got them listening to what their own parents grew up with when they were young. - http://www.fireflyfans.net 08.09 22:20 | |||||||||

| 6ixStringJack: Yeah. It probably is more "Hip Hop/R&B" like Run DMC, Arrested Development and BoyzIIMen. Although I'm pretty sure K.M.C. Kru were a one hit wonder, so I don't know what their other music sounded like, assuming they had any. 6ixStringJack: That really wasn't rap though. That's what all the white kids were listening to on Party Radio when NWA and Tupac weren't allowed on the radio. I totally forgot about that one until you brought up the Devil went down to Georgia. Looks like KMC Kru was so forgotten they didn't even get a real video upload on YT and that's only there because somebody had it recorded on their VCR.
