I watched "Supersize me" on DvD rental this week.
Originally, I wasn't too keen on watching it, but I enjoyed it!

Not too sure if I want to go back to Maccy D's now after watching it...

Seriously though, it was an interesting movie. I felt sorry for the guy eating all that junk food in the name of an experiment. He was kinda crazy to want to go through it...

Overall, it was funny, insightful, educational and sometimes painful to watch...

A couple of nights ago I watched the 1979 PBS version of The Lathe of Heaven, starring Bruce Davison and Kevin Conway, and based on the novel by Ursula K. Le Guin. Even though the video quality was poor, it was a much better production than the A&E remake from a couple of years ago. It was a Netflix rental.

Other than that I have been watching some television shows on dvd or tapes that I made myself, including the original Battlestar Galactica series off Sci-Fi Channel (I've watched the first five hours so far), plus the animated series The Critic which I just purchased, and the first season of Alias from Netflix. I had not seen any of Alias before this.

Just got back from a sneak peak of Sideways (okay, I know its not new over the pond given it just picked up some Golden Globes, but its new here).

Fantastic - great writing, acting, directing and music. I came out of that film thirsty for a glass of wine, and I feel like I'm betraying Miles as the only thing I have in the house is merlot!

If you get the chance, check it out - its a buddy movie that treats the audience like adults; funny and moving. Paul Giamatti should get the Oscar, though I'm quite sure its already marked out for Jamie Foxx (haven't seen Ray yet, but have to admit that on the form he showed in Collateral, he may deserve it).

Given time to settle into my list of great films, its aiming for a respectable slot in the top ten.

strange, I watched Supersize then had to fulfill my burger and fry craving.

In the last week:
Life with Father -- a personal favorite
Bourne Supremecy -- bettr than i expected
Animanl House -- needs no description
and just finished Convoy -- what's sad is I've sat thru this movie at least five times

Yep, I saw Sideways about a month ago, hubby has seen it twice!

So glad to see it got a Golden Globe, now let's cross our fingers for a Oscar!

Umm. I have to think now.

Predator - One of my favourite films ever.

Predator 2 - Not as good as the first one.

Aliens - Great film. Better than the other Alien films.

Starship Troopers - Yeah! I love this film. Kickass!

Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation - Disappointing sequel to an excellent film.

I had a batch of free screening passes fall in my lap the past two weeks... this is my '05 film tally so far:

Hotel Rwanda - Fantastic film about sanity and survival in the midst of hell on earth. Don Cheadle is amazing in this. I am bummed the Golden Globes all but ignored this important movie. Hopefully the Academy will right that wrong.

Elektra - Average comicbook-to-movie fare. Not great, not horrible. It does suffer from PG-13 limitations. Elektra should have been an R-rated film from the get go. I can tell already that the inevitable un-rated DVD version will be a much better film.

Assault on Precinct 13 - I remember enjoying it while I was watching it. However, the film evaporated from my mind as soon as I exited the cinema. I recall thinking Larry Fishburne could use some pilates. Oh, and I think there were some explosions.

A Very Long Engagement - This film is from the same director as Amelie and shares much of its romanticism. This film is also from the director who brought you Delicatessen and City of Lost Children and shares those films strange dark obsessions. In other words... A Very Long Engagement is brilliant and must be seen. Plus Audrey Tatou is the cutest human being on Earth-that-was-(almost).

I watched Million Dollar Baby, and it has been a long while since I have seen a film this good. Clint Eastwood, and Morgan Freeman are fantastic, and Hillary Swank was amazing. She deserves the Oscar for best actress. If you haven't seen it, then do yourself a favor, and check it out. I wont spoil anything, all I will say is that it's a powerful drama, emphesis on the powerful. It's not very often that films are this well crafted. Brilliant.
