I'm glad your article says that it opened a week early internationally. I was figuring that's what had to happen with the Domestic / International split being only 25% / 75%.
I've got an article from the Guardian right here that doesn't even mention that it was released early internationally and made it sound as if the $50.5 Million it made on weekend 2 was the opening weekend internationally.

Makes it real confusing when you then go to The-Numbers and see that it has $165 Million internationally now.
So...
Here's the deal. There is nothing special at all about Gladiator 2 making $50 Million on weekend 2 internationally.
I've always said that your average international release is going to make just about the same amount in the 7 days after opening weekend as it made on opening weekend.
Now because of the staggered international release, I'm having a very hard time finding out what it made internationally the weekend before it opened in the states. But the current figure is $165 Million, which means that it made roughly $115 Million in the first 7 days.
I'd say it's a good bet that 75% of that $115 Million was from last weekend, and 25% was from Monday through Thursday.
So $86 Million opening weekend internationally, with $29 Million additional from Monday through Thursday to make $115 Million. So add that $29 Million to the $50 Million it made on the 2nd weekend and that $79 Million is right in line with the $86 Million it would have gotten opening weekend.
With those numbers, a $50 Million second weekend would be a 32% drop from weekend 1.
I will admit this is not a bad drop. I don't follow how movies drop internationally because it would be almost impossible to do so the way that they present that data to us currently, but only your crowd pleasers are going to see drops like that on the 2nd weekend here in the states.
But none of that matters. This is now a confirmed flop.
Had the international box office been $165 Million opening weekend, it probably would have been fine. But now that we know it only made $50 Million this weekend and will only make $25-$35 Million next weekend if the international interest holds up, And to make it even worse, the US opening weekend is just about the same amount as the international 2nd weekend so we'll be able to watch them both fall roughly by the same amount going forward.
There's no way they're making it to the $625 Million they need just to break even.
My guess is they lose roughly $150 Million on this, but it could be more. A lot more. I wouldn't make a prediction worse than this until I see the numbers after next weekend.
