Trump was ostensibly miffed about the remarks.
“Bill Barr had ‘no guts,’ and got ‘no glory.’ He was a weak and pathetic RINO, who was so afraid of being Impeached that he became a captive to the Radical Left Democrats,” the former president wrote on his Truth Social platform afterward.
Once allies, Barr and Trump have fallen out since Barr declined to support Trump’s claims that the 2020 election had been rigged in Joe Biden’s favor.

‘Should be game over’: DOJ ‘decimates’ Trump’s argument in new filing

Prosecutors are seeking a stay on a Judge Aileen Cannon's ruling for a special master to allow the FBI to work with the rest of the intelligence community to investigate "just over 100 records marked as classified."
The motion indicated the markings signify disclosures that "reasonably could be expected to result in damage to national security.
In a footnote on the first page, prosecutors sought to debunk one of Trump's defenses.
DOJ wrote Trump "has characterized the government’s criminal investigation as a 'document storage dispute' or an 'overdue library book scenario.' In doing so, [Trump] has not addressed the potential harms that could result from mishandling classified information or the strict requirements imposed by law for handling such materials," DOJ argued.
The filing also said Trump "offers no response to the government’s multiple arguments demonstrating that he cannot plausibly assert executive privilege to prevent the Executive Branch itself from reviewing records that Executive Branch officials previously marked as classified."
The filing also noted Trump "does not actually assert—much less provide any evidence—that any of the seized records bearing classification markings have been declassified."
Former Pentagon special counsel Ryan Goodman said the brief "decimates Trump lawyers' brief" and said it "should be game over."
"Brilliant moves here by DOJ," he explained. "First, they call Trump's bluff here -- that he has never asserted in court that he declassified/made records personal. Second, if he did declassify any, it would be hugely important for IC/FBI/DOJ to have those records to assess the impact."
Goodman continued, "Next pointed and irrefutable argument by DOJ: If Trump wants to claim he made these records "personal," then his claim of executive privilege evaporates. Personal records = no executive privilege Trump's lawyers' and advisors (eg Tom Fitton) have dug themselves a hole here."

The senior federal judge tasked with reviewing the materials seized by the FBI from Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate sharply questioned the former president’s attorneys Tuesday during their first hearing in his courtroom.
Judge Raymond Dearie repeatedly challenged Trump’s lawyers for refusing to back up the former president’s claim that he declassified the highly sensitive national security-related records discovered in his residence.
“My view of it is: you can’t have your cake and eat it,” said Dearie, the “special master” picked by U.S. District Court Judge Aileen Cannon to vet Trump’s effort to reclaim the materials taken by federal investigators.
Trump has argued that the 11,000 documents taken from Mar-a-Lago by the FBI pursuant to a search warrant last month were rightfully in his possession, including about 100 bearing classification markings that suggest they contain some of the nation’s most closely guarded intelligence.
But Dearie bristled at the effort by Trump’s lawyers to resist his request for proof that Trump actually attempted to declassify any of the 100 documents that the Justice Department recovered from his estate. Without evidence from Trump, Dearie said his only basis to judge the classification level of the records was the fact that they all bear markings designating them as highly sensitive national security secrets — including some that indicate they contain intelligence derived from human sources and foreign intercepts.
From the outset of the 40-minute hearing, Dearie signaled that he was determined that Trump’s “litigation strategy” would not interfere with the review Dearie has agreed to do. The judge appeared to be referring to vague assertions of declassification by Trump’s side, without so far any facts to back that up.
“I can’t allow litigation strategy to dictate the outcome of my recommendations to Judge Cannon,” Dearie said.
