I wonder how MAGONSDAUGHTER is doing? Her last post, about a month ago, was that they were having lovely la Nina rains. Seems like it migt be too much of a good thing. (That explains CA dryness. La Nina produces rains in Australia but drought on USA southwest coast. El Nino is the opposite. It's like a teeter-totter across the Pacific and across the equator.)
I wonder if Australia has an active groundwater recharge program? That's the safest and largest place to store water, not behind dams.

It hasn't rained here in 3 days and my sump pump still goes off 2 to 3 times per hour.
I REALLY wish somebody would find something useful to do with all the extra water around here.

Isn't that whole continent a practical desert?

No, there are whole coasts of Australia that are tropical jungles or eucalyptus forests.![]()

A surprisingly non-virtue-signalling post out of the Roomba.
Oh... I get it.
He must hate Australians because most of them are white.

That map still looks like the land mass is 80% desert.
It should be able to handle some rain. Maybe import some beavers.

I didn't mention grasslands but they do exist. Most of Australia is either forests or grasslands, just like most of the NA is either forests or grasslands, most of Africa is either forests or grasslands, and so on.
Here's finer more specific designation of Aussie deserts.![]()
And even deserts aren't always completely devoid of life. Here are some examples of that from our own southwestern deserts.
Mojave
Sonoran
So for example, here are some areas of Aussie deserts.
Great Victoria Desert
Tanami Desert
