Oh, btw, I did a lot of quick reading, and it did seem to me that my router could have been hacked. But supposedly rebooting - which I did a gazzilion times trying to troubleshoot the problem - should have fixed that. So I put it all down to random, catastrophic hardware failure.

I wish I could tell you more. I'm fairly computer literate, relatively speaking compared to the hundreds of millions of people who are now all online but showed no interest in tech before handheld phones came out, but I'm more of a jack of all trades; master of none.
It would have been interesting to know if you experienced the same issues with a different browser or, even better, on a different computer.
As far as I know, I've never had my router hacked, but who's really to say? My network might very well have been a zombie network helping somebody else mine bitcoin for the last 10 years without me even knowing it.
As long as my computer does what I need it to do and nobody is going after my money/credit, I really don't care much. My days of paranoia are behind me, and I'm really just not all that interesting.

I saw a family guy where Peter and Brian were in the car and flipping through radio stations and shared an awkward moment where they both admitted to each other how much they loved this song.
