But people vote narratives - what Signy calls context. Part of the context is Joe Biden. Trump doesn't need to be great, he just needs to be better than Joe.
There are the competing narratives being developed right now - Joe plus Burisma v Donald plus reimpeachment (... like that worked so well the first time, Nancy, and left the public at large eager for more).
There's COVID waiting in the wings which is still being played out. It'll be it's own narrative by then.
And it'll be part of the whole economy narrative waiting to be contextualized. A bad economy only works for Joe if he can contextualize it more usefully.
Right now, it looks like Donald is scrambling for some solid footing: CHINA! IRAN! REOPEN! HCQ! NO MASKS! DEEP STATE! But this is now.
It's a long time until the election and a lot will happen before then.

Better hope that Democrats successfully do the mail order vote thing so people with your fervor can go and fill out 200 forms for all of your friends and families and stuff the ballot box with them because otherwise Democrat turnout looks to be at historic lows in November and any predictive model out there shows that Democrats lose big if that happens.
