A key point that both Putin and Trump share is that when they lie they never apologize. They never acknowledge that they’ve made mistakes or lie because they don’t believe that there is actually a truth out there. It is not just a habit. It’s a policy to try to crowd factuality out of the public sphere. You lie all the time. You call the journalists the liars and then it’s in that confusion that you govern. Because if people don’t believe that there is truth, they think they’re sophisticated but in fact they’re completely impotent.

Some 4.3 million people quit jobs in August — about 2.9 percent of the workforce, according to new data released Tuesday from the Labor Department. Those numbers are up from the previous record set in April, of about 4 million people quitting, reflecting how the pandemic has continued to jolt workers’ mind-sets about their jobs and their lives.
The phenomenon is being driven in part by workers who are less willing to endure inconvenient hours and poor compensation, who are quitting instead to find better opportunities. According to the report, there were 10.4 million job openings in the country at the end of August — down slightly from July’s record high, which was adjusted up to 11.1 million, but still a tremendously high number. This gives workers enormous leverage as they look for a better fit.

You should expect airlines at every major airport to have a bunch of bullshit excuses why they're cancelling flights.
Too bad for them that pilots are far less replaceable than retail employees.

This also happened to Southwest back in June, when the system collapsed for the same reason: too many flights and too many pilots hitting their federally mandated duty limits, which grounded the planes. Obviously, Southwest is failing to keep track of duty limits, but pilots keep track and tell their bosses that they will hit their limit in the middle of a 4 hour flight, therefore the pilot can't takeoff on that flight. If there aren't any spare pilots sitting in the airport lounge drinking Sprite or Pepsi, the flight is cancelled AND ALL OTHER FLIGHTS USING THAT SAME PLANE THAT DAY AND THE NEXT DAY BECAUSE THE PLANE IS NOT IN THE CITY IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE ACCORDING TO SOUTHWEST'S SCHEDULE!

Here is another factoid about airlines: Unlike the Serenity spaceship, Southwest Airlines must have two pilots in the cockpit, not just one, when it flies. If one of the pilots will reach during flight the duty limit set by the FAA, the other pilot cannot take the plane into the air. If the plane is not in the air, all other flights using that same plane for the next 48 hours will be cancelled unless a spare pilot is found damn quick.
