Tucker Carlson is pandering to his audience, which isn't vaccinated: About 13% of American adults don’t want a COVID-19 vaccine, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation. Republicans are the most resistant; nearly 3 in 10 say they don’t want one. The share is greater among rural, Republican men, 35% of whom don’t want to get a vaccine.

Tucker Carlson knows his audience and he says what he must to keep them. Tucker Carlson was the most-watched host in cable news in April, leading all other shows with an average audience of more than 3 million viewers. If Firefly could have modified episodes on Fox within 24 hours, as Tucker Carlson can on Fox, in order to maintain its audience, Firefly would be in its 19th season.

You're stating the obvious TWO. A not widely known fact is that he has little sponsorship, but for again obvious reasons, FOX keeps him around. His fans are a lesson in stupidity and hatefulness.

When you start calling out your own, Ted, people will take you more seriously when you call out people you don't agree with.

That can be applied in the actual real world just like it can be applied here.

Where's your boy Roomba, BTW?

That's a very broad and stupid generalization. I give my Grandma shit nearly every day for wasting the last of her years watching nothing but news. She'll argue to me that she watches everything, but any time I've been over there she's always got FOX News on, just like she did when I lived there 20 years ago.

She's vaccinated.

I'd be willing to bet that a lot of people who would watch CNN over FOX aren't vaccinated either.

Well... these stats are pure bullshit. I've actually been keeping track of these things while doing my passport ban thread.

Even most of the blue states have seen the amount of covid shots being done declining so steeply that they're only taking a small portion of their monthly allotment so they don't go to waste.

Far more than 13% of adults don't want vaccinations.

That's propaganda. They won't be able to keep lying about that soon.

What will they start taking from us first?

More generalization:

“There is an overrepresentation of governments led by populist leaders among the worst performers” against COVID-19, Frenk told me, also citing the examples of Bolsonaro (Brazil), López Obrador (Mexico), and Trump. “I’m not saying it’s a cause-and-effect relationship,” he added, “but it’s hard to find any example of a country with a populist leader that has done well.”

Frenk listed four common attributes of various populist leaders who have mishandled the pandemic:

First, “the tendency to underestimate or dismiss expertise,” because “experts are considered part of the corrupt elites that the populist leader is going to defend people from”;

second, “the distrust of science” and of the sort of “independent, critical thinking” that populist leaders with authoritarian inclinations dislike;

third, the impulse to divide citizens between the “good people embodied by the populist leader” and “the corrupt elites,” even going so far as to politicize public-health measures such as mask wearing, rather than instilling in the public “a sense of shared destiny”;

and fourth, the instinct to “trap themselves in a narrative” and then “refuse to acknowledge that they were wrong” and correct course, blaming others instead. The governments that have performed best against COVID-19, by contrast, have implemented policies “informed by science and by expertise and by political leaders who unify the country.”

COVID-19 Lays Bare the Price of Populism. Price does not mean deaths only, but also economic loss and $trillion government spending, spending which would NOT have been needed but for gross government incompetency at handling the earliest stages of a crisis.
