The president responded by staging a White House news briefing hours later, during which he claimed Redfield “made a mistake” and “got the message maybe confused” at the time of his remarks.

The president was trying to highlight how deaths from the virus are concentrated among older people and those with preexisting conditions — never mind that more than half of the US population falls into one or both of those categories — but he made his point in a remarkably callous way:
"It affects elderly people. Elderly people with heart problems and other problems. If they have other problems, that’s what it really affects. That’s it. You know, in some states, thousands of people, nobody young [dies]. Below the age of 18, like, nobody. They have a strong immune system, who knows. You look — take your hat off to the young, because they have a hell of an immune system. But it affects virtually nobody. It’s an amazing thing.
By the way, open your schools, everybody. Open your schools."
Covid-19 is nothing to be cavalier about, regardless of age, and it’s irresponsible for the president to suggest otherwise. Trump knows better but is spreading dangerous misinformation anyway. Trump is back to having multiple political rallies each week featuring packed crowds, very few masks, and no social distancing.

It is no surprise that Trump has an affinity for Russia. His empty bragging is dragging America down to become the next Russia - a big fat failure of a country, with no plans that make sense for the future, trying to convince itself it is not failing so long as it has H-bombs: "Trump’s new nuclear weapon has been deployed" Except that weapon can't be used without also destroying America. What a dumb idea he had, dumber than even his Covid-19 response.
