A secret impeachment ballot might sound crazy, but it’s actually quite possible. In fact, it would take only three senators to allow for that possibility. The House of Representatives. Article I, Section 3, of the Constitution does not set many parameters for the trial, except to say that “the Chief Justice shall preside,” and “no Person shall be convicted without the Concurrence of two thirds of the Members present.” That means the Senate has sole authority to draft its own rules for the impeachment trial, without judicial or executive branch oversight.

Politico is wrong.
Article I, Section 5 has something to say about that...
Quote:
Each House shall be the Judge of the Elections, Returns and Qualifications of its own Members, and a Majority of each shall constitute a Quorum to do Business; but a smaller Number may adjourn from day to day, and may be authorized to compel the Attendance of absent Members, in such Manner, and under such Penalties as each House may provide.
Each House may determine the Rules of its Proceedings, punish its Members for disorderly Behaviour, and, with the Concurrence of two thirds, expel a Member.
Each House shall keep a Journal of its Proceedings, and from time to time publish the same, excepting such Parts as may in their Judgment require Secrecy; and the Yeas and Nays of the Members of either House on any question shall, at the Desire of one fifth of those Present, be entered on the Journal….
You would need 81 Senators to approve of a secret ballot. Not 51.

Quote:You are confused. If 20 Senators do NOT want a voice vote, they can force the issue by having a real count of the vote, but the 20 can't force a record of who voted which way. If you don't like it, take it to the Supreme Court and get an answer back more to your liking in, maybe, 12 months.

What is a voice vote? - A vote in which the presiding officer states the question, then asks those in favor and against to say "Yea" or "Nay," respectively, and announces the result according to his or her judgment. The names or numbers of senators voting on each side are not recorded.

Jack is always confused Second. Its apparent he doesn't understand what he himself posted. Get ready because he is sure to post it again while making the same moot point having no practical value.

Again, if he doesn't think the Senate rules on voting are Constitutional, he and Trump can send their whiny attorneys to the Supreme Court.

Jack is doing what he always does. He is posting to the contrary to get attention. It's called trolling.

Once again, you're wrong...

The journal is published. If 20 or more senators desire them to be entered into the journal, than they will be entered into the journal.
It's cut and dry. There is zero need to go to the Supreme Court, and you're never going to get 33 GOP senators to go along with it.
You better find something else if you're going to get Trump out of office, because he's going to win in 2020 and nothing else you've done so far is going to change that.

Quote:Elections are about how many hate your guts rather than how many like you. If Trump is the most hated, he will lose. His disapproval rating was 37% in 2017. Now it is 52.7%. He can't win at 52.7%. He will have to do something amazing in the next 10 months, like land on the moon or win the Afghanistan War or the S&P 500 increases by 20% or GDP up by 3%, or else he will lose the election to a plain vanilla Democrat.

According to current Senate procedure, McConnell will still need a simple majority—51 of the 53 Senate Republicans—to support any resolution outlining rules governing the trial. That means that if only three Republican senators were to break from the caucus, they could block any rule they didn’t like. (Vice President Mike Pence can’t break ties in impeachment matters.) "
