SECONDRATE: I charge Trump with tax evasion. Plenty of evidence that he owes the IRS $billions in unpaid taxes.

Yep. Evidence that the IRS has been just been sitting on for how many years now?

Riiiight.

Signym, I expected you to show zero willingness to look at what cheating Trump did:

How can Trump get away with cheating when there is an IRS?

Signym, paying taxes is voluntary. You report your income, and IRS will try to verify the correctness of your return by comparing what is on your Form 1040 with what your employer told the IRS. But what if you are self-employed, as is Trump? Then the system completely breaks down as it has in the case of Trump. He said he would voluntarily make his tax returns public information but he did not. Why not? Because he did not voluntarily pay his taxes:

The Treasury Department believes that there is a “tax gap,” taxes owed but not paid, of more than $500 billion every year; some estimates put the number much higher. And the Biden administration proposes giving the I.R.S. enough resources to reduce this gap as a way to help pay for investment in America’s future.

Republicans negotiating over a possible infrastructure bill ruled out paying for it in part by giving the Internal Revenue Service more resources to go after tax evasion. If the administration goes this route, it will apparently do so with little if any Republican support.

Just to be clear, I’m not surprised to learn that a significant number of senators are sympathetic to the interests of wealthy tax cheats, that they are objectively pro-tax evasion. I am, however, surprised that they are willing to be so open about their sympathies.

There is, after all, a big difference between arguing for low taxes on the rich and arguing, in effect, that rich people who don’t pay what they legally owe should be allowed to get away with it.

One recent estimate is that more than 20 percent of the income of the top 1 percent goes unreported. Republicans opposing stronger tax enforcement are barely even trying to justify themselves, except by bringing up old, long-debunked claims that the I.R.S. targeted conservative groups. Yet they seem determined to defend the privileges of wealthy tax cheats. Why?

Obviously some big tax cheats are also big political donors. What I’d suggest is that the cheats’ clout within the G.O.P. has actually increased as the party has gotten crazier.

There have always been wealthy Americans who dislike the right’s embrace of racial hostility and culture wars but have been willing to swallow their distaste as long as Republicans keep their taxes low. But as the G.O.P. has become more extreme — as it has become the party of election lies and violent insurrection — who among the wealthy is still willing to make that trade-off?

Some rich Americans have always been right-wing radicals. But as for the rest, the party’s base within the donor class presumably consists increasingly of those among the wealthy with the fewest scruples and the least concern for their reputations — who are precisely the kind of people most likely to engage in blatant tax evasion.

Is that what you tell yourself when you cheat?

Yanno SECONDRATE, my dad was a sales tax examiner for NYS, and there are all kinds of thngs they did BESIDES "look at the books" including just sitting and watching a business to see the flow of customers and estimate revenue.

Supposedly, the IRS is auditing Trump's tax record, and I assume that they are at least as diligent as lowly NYS employees.

MANY wealthy people pay no income tax.

The 25 richest Americans paid little to no federal income taxes, according to a report released Tuesday by the nonprofit news organization ProPublica, a claim that has reignited debate about the tax code and sparked an investigation by the IRS into the leak of private tax documents.

In 2007, Jeff Bezos, then a multibillionaire and now the world’s richest man, did not pay a penny in federal income taxes. He achieved the feat again in 2011. In 2018, Tesla founder Elon Musk, the second-richest person in the world, also paid no federal income taxes.

Michael Bloomberg managed to do the same in recent years. Billionaire investor Carl Icahn did it twice. George Soros paid no federal income tax three years in a row.

Also, many wealthy BUSINESSES pay no BUSINESS tax.

And they manage that because Congress, the President, and the IRS itself have made it possible, by building in loopholes - depreciations, expenses, exemptions, etc.

If you want to indict Trump for "paying no income tax" (How WOULD you know that, BTW?) you may as well indict ALL of the elite.

Better yet, instead of whinging about Trump not paying his taxes, you should get yourself a better tax lawyer. I'm sure there are a few more loopholes and dodges that you haven't taken advantage of yet.

There is only Trump's word that he is being audited. He never produced a letter from IRS showing an audit.

All Presidents have made their tax returns available to the public after Nixon was caught cheating. Congress audited Nixon and he had the choice to either pay half his net worth or be impeached. He paid.

Unlike Trump, Nixon was wise to avoid an impeachment trial by Congress. Nixon probably would not have been convicted, since that would take 67 Senators and there were at least 34 solid Republicans who would never vote guilty. Unlike Nixon, Trump was very willing to test in two impeachments the loyalty of Republican Senators. Trump is among the wealthy with the fewest scruples and the least concern for their reputations — who are precisely the kind of people most likely to engage in blatant tax evasion.

It is thrilling to watch Trump lie about his taxes, year after year:

So, SECONDRATE, you baselessly accused - many times over- that Trump "paid no income taxes".

Aside from the fact that MANY wealthy people pay no income taxes, WHAT do you base this accusation on? That Trump didn't make his return public?

Big fucking deal.

And now you're whinging that he didn't produce the audit letter, so he must be lying about that too?

He doesn't have to prove his innocence to you, or to anybody. Meanwhile, you just keep throwing shit against the wall to see what sticks.

Stop making shit up, liar.

Signym, this is why the Presidency didn't function well under either Nixon or Trump. Both of them lied constantly. Nixon about Vietnam and his taxes. Trump about everything, including his taxes. Obviously you don't care. Aren't you a special kind of person!

Obama lies his ass off. So does Hillary. So does the M$M. Apparently you don't care about THOSE lies.
You lie, too,

Lies don't bother you, so stop lying that they do.
If you can manage to tell the truth, that is.

I said it before, and I'll say it again just in case you forgot.

I don't give one single fuck if Trump didn't pay any taxes.
