I tend to agree with you. There are some movies that are meant to be seen in the theater. My first truly orgasmic experience with the affect a giant movie theater screen has was with Star Wars: A New Hope. That star destroyer
chasing after Princess Leia's vessel.

Yeah, there were some really good lines in this one. Keanu knows his shit and reminds me of Tom Cruise in how he dives into a role and entertains his fans.
By the way, he really doesn't need the money, he's worth like $300M.

Matrix was just about the Perfect movie.
I won't crap all over the sequels because that's already been done to death. They're actually not all that bad on their own merits.
I still hate them though. Not only weren't they necessary in the first place, but they trivialized almost everything that was great about the original movie.
Morpheus is just middle management? All of the great characters from the original movie were just cogs in a fairly large machine?
Glad that Keanu finally got a payday he deserved with them, but I resent the damage those movies did to the original.
Whenever I finally get the urge to re-watch it, I will only be watching the first movie and the Animatrix. Some of the skits on the Animatrix are nothing special, but there are a few that are just downright excellence.
To my recollection, none of them took away from the original.
This one in particular was my favorite.
Goosebumps every time.

Agreed. The Matrix is a perfect movie, NO Question. If it ended there without
any sequels, I would have been fine with it. It is a self-contained complete story that told the tale perfectly.
Reloaded and Revolutions did not stand up as enhancing the overall story of the Matrix. I tolerate Reloaded because there are a few elements within that
are positive, but Revolutions is almost complete garbage; collapsing under the sheer weight of utter convoluted mystic mumbo-jumbo.
Now, the Animatrix I could actually stomach, but I like your choice "World Record" but I also like "The Flight of the Osiris."
And yes, none detracted from the original, but provided context and, IMHO, added to that world. Not that The Matrix needed it. Star Wars was the modern day originator, the Matrix took it to a whole new level. Sci-fi perfection.

You may ask why reveal the release date of JW4 now? Well, they're on a roll.
Each making more than the previous chapter, expanding their fan base and adding to the legend of the main character.
The fans crave more and the creative crew behind the franchise would be foolish to take a "break" and not follow up, striking while the iron is hot.
I'm almost certain that after the success of two the producers decided to continue forward by creating more chapters to tell the story. So far, it seems
that each chapter doubles and triples it's take.
JW3 so far has grossed close to $101M domestically ($175M worldwide).
JW1 did well from the jump, $43M domestically, and $45M worldwide = $88M.
Not bad for an unknown and totally new franchise.
JW2 made $92M here in the US, and $79.5M worldwide or $171M altogether. Almost double from the original.
They could stand alone, but you would miss something if you ignore the two before it.

Yeah. There was a day that I would have called The Matrix THE Perfect Movie. That's definitely not the case now since I can't unwatch the sequels and they were just so damaging to the original. Maybe I'd still not say it 20 years later. A lot has changed. I was practically a kid when it first blew me away.
I had to actually look up the Animatrix to remember what The Flight of Osirus was about. Yeah. That was a good one too. Definitely my favorite as far as how good it looked.
They really all were at the very least good. World Record though, was the only one that made a strong emotional impact on me. I'm not kidding about the goosebumps. I got them again watching it for the first time in years when I posted it the other day.
Have you ever seen Love, Death and Robots on Netflix?
If you haven't, I think you'd REALLY get a kick out of that since you liked the Animatrix. My old man showed me a few episodes a couple months ago. I haven't watched the rest of season 1 yet, but of the ones that I have seen I would HIGHLY recommend these episodes in the following order.
Three Robots - Long after the fall of humanity, three robots embark on a sightseeing tour of a post-apocalyptic city.
Suits - A community of farmers use their homemade mechs to defend their families from an alien invasion.
Others that I've seen that I didn't really care for...
Sonnie's Edge - In the underground world of "beastie" fights, Sonnie is unbeatable -- as long as she keeps her edge.
The Witness - After seeing a brutal murder, a woman flees from the killer through the streets of a surreal city.
Even the "bad" ones are still an artistic sight to behold. I might not have enjoyed them like I would have watching them alone since these two have some pretty explicit animated sex scenes in them and that's always weird watching something like that with the folks. The fact that it's cartoons probably makes it more weird.
I also saw "Sucker of Souls" and "Ice Age". Not bad. You'll probably enjoy them. I just wouldn't put it up there with the first two and the best eps from the Animatrix.
