Saw it last night with mah kiddo.

Not the worst Marvel movie in the bunch (*cough, Thor), but not the greatest (for us, Dr. Strange and Ragnarok), but then, she doesn't exactly have a whole host of celebs in the movie to back her up, either. It's just her and Sam, and I've never seen her before in ANYTHING.

Samuel Jackson is actually the comic relief in the movie. It's a lighter version of Fury, and you find out why it's just "Fury" in the movie. And, you find out why he gets an eye patch. The hair they glued on him was distracting, they should have worked it into the movie that he had to shave it off somehow.

There are going to be quite a few things for the cinema sins people to pick apart, I can't wait for THAT. Fortunately, the movie is mostly free of stuff for the incels to whine over, like female empowerment (the horror), and there is only one veiled but intelligent and funny jab at Chump when a Kree refers to Earth as a "real shithole". Perspective! Also, who the good guys turned out to be has some analogies to current events and logistics...But, for the most part, it's just a gal doing her job. There's plenty of pokes at the reality of living in the 90's, so Nostalgia! The only real negative is that there were aspects of the movie that reminded me of Green Lantern, with the whole "space special forces thing".

Overall, it had a decent amount of humor and action, but it just managed to hover instead of soaring. There were only a couple of short spots where I was bored, and maybe five minutes of good headwind at the end where she "finds her mojo". The extra shots at the end were pretty predictable.

We could watch it again, but not anything I HAVE to watch again. We give it a B+.

Won't see it any time soon, but best reviews I can tell seem to conclude it wasn't the screaming Feminist diatribe we were told ( and some had hoped ) it would be.

Decent at the start, then boring, then finally good again, but not great.

The cat was cute.

Ben Mendelsohn makes a good villain.

Younger Nick Fury had some good lines, but honestly, SLJ shouldn't be doing any fight scenes at his age. Some things that CG just can't fix.

Brie Larson looked nice in the suit ( from the front, at least ) but they picked the wrong person to play this role. Her pre-release antics didn't help anyone. Not herself, the movie or the MCU over all.

But it doesn't seem to be a complete disaster. So they've got that going for them, which is nice.

Funny that there's any gen'd up, artificial pride in there FINALLY being a positive, strong woman in the MCU.

The franchise is full of them, from Pepper Potts, Black Widow, Peggy Carter, Gamora and Nebula, Valkyrie , Shuri, Ayo, Scarlet Witch...

And of course, Wonder Woman kinda put that whole tired argument to rest, so please. Brie and the wahmen did themselves and the MCU a great disservice, more than they know.

You know, it's funnier... but I don't personally know any women who were obsessed with there being a standalone female hero lead (perhaps that's why we got one AFTER black people and a dozen white male lead movies), but I know plenty of men who are obsessed with a woman GETTING a standalone hero lead. Like it unvalidates some portion of the white male ego. Women have much bigger things to worry about.

As GI Jane perfectly explained...The problem ISN'T WITH WOMEN.
You guys dedicated a whole thread to whining about it here, did any of the women here even really care? NO.

If white males were the ones last on the list, there would be RIOTS.

I have no idea what you're even talking about Wish, but that's never gonna change.

The comments by us MEN were only in response to Brie's childish snarky outburst, concerning 40 yr old white men, and of course the array of 'woke' wahmen across social media who were clamoring for this movie to be something which no fans actually cared about , but SJW Marvel felt compelled to shove down our throats.

See Star Wars( Han Soylo, Mary Rey ) , Nurse Who and even Star Trek ( STD ).

Fathom the hypocrisy of a government that requires every citizen to prove they are insured... but not everyone must prove they are a citizen

Only a few short scenes. He's aged a bit these last couple years and it was obvious they did a lot of cleanup to make him look younger. I'm not quite sure why they bothered, we "get" it's the 90's and they are actually people and aren't actually younger. Hollyweird needs to learn to "hang a lantern" on it with an age joke and let it go already...It's like what they did with the last pirate movie and Depp, although they did better work with Coulson. You don't usually have any idea what I'm talking about, and it's not likely ever going to change.

She was snarky about white men because she's been in "the business" long enough to see what's WHAT (since I was in High School anyway). White male society has a LOT of growin' the hell up to do. ESPECIALLY ON SOCIAL MEDIA. There is NO bigger baby than a white male who has been told his opinion is irrelevant. Wahhhhh-bastards.

Why should anyone be told their opinion is irrelevant ? My god, the lack of awareness from the wahmen and SJW types never ceases to amaze. This absurd idea that everything everywhere should be a direct reflection of group identity by % of population is laughably , absurdly arbitrary.

There are no barriers for women who want to be film critics. Never has been, never will be. In a FREE society, we are unhindered to do and work as we please. in short, Brie's whining about something that isn't an issue. At all.

Try fighting for actual things that matter, like not forcing women to wear a hijab, or having the right to drive, hold a job, manage their own money. 1st world problems like movies which aren't made for women or people of color ? Please. Stop beclowning yourself already !

* ETA - It's dirt simple. Don't insult a large part of your target audience before your movie drops and expect there to be no blow back. Be more inclusive w/ out being an ass , when possible. Or ever.

Her comments didn't alter the movie, but it did rub enough the wrong way to change how some VIEW the movie, because they simply don't like her - at all. Not a move a clever girl makes when trying to endear herself and her product to the franchise.

live and learn. Her antics don't just affect her own bank account, but those of an entire industry as well.
