Quote:AS I HAVE POSTED ABOUT TWO DOZEN TIMES ... the "solutions" to our economic and social predicaments are far beyond what ANY President can accomplish, even in two terms. It would require such radical reorganization of banking and finance, a complete overhaul of our trade policies, re-industrialization and repairing/improving infrastructure, breakup of monopolies (including media monopolies) etc etc etc that would put FDR's efforts to shame.
Is it fair to attach the responsibility for solutions to current government problems to the current administration? Or maybe we should dig up Gerald Ford?
The best thing that I expect from Trump is to keep those decisions WITHIN THE UNITED STATES, so that we can collectively make our way forward through what I perceive to be a coming disaster.
Our problems have been over a half-century in the making, and they're not about to get solved in four or eight years. That's about as realistic and thinking we can reverse global climate change at this point.
I hope I don't have to repeat this point .... AGAIN ... for your edification, because I've posted it waaay too often already.

Geebers either makes a point of being a dolt and a troll - or he really is them. Either way, he's not going to be educable, or honorable.
SECOND is a troll because it constantly misrepresents what people post, fails to address their actual positions, and resorts to personal attacks when its brain isn't working (which is most of the time).

Well, maybe NOW is the time for me to re-ask the question that I've asked a couple-dozen times by now, but perhaps rephrased in a way more understandable by CC, THUGR, SECOND, WISHY, REAVERFAN and JO: What are America's biggest problems, and how can we solve them?
I think What are America's interests? was perhaps a bit too abstract.

Your point of Economic Doom is duly noted.....there, you have now been acknowledged as the Foreseer of bad tidings. You no longer need to point out the
obvious. I knew it, I knew that trump's little statements would come back to bite him in the end.
"I alone can fix it" can not stand.
Economic woes, as I have noticed, are cyclical. It is the way of the beast....
capitalism. I don't think of "solutions" so much, but of applying certain controls
over the economy. Applying and releasing pressure where needed. The sin comes in the form of Greed and avarice. Your "solution" is to sever all global ties and fend for ourselves (if I'm understanding you correctly). To minimize the damage, so to speak, of the coming "disaster." And you feel that Trump is bravely moving
in that direction? Oh, and didn't Obama advocate for infrastructure building? Whatever happened to that? (a rhetorical question, I know Congress did their damndest to put a krimp into Obama's economic growth agenda.)
If that's the case, I don't see it. Logically, if the world economic order is in shambles and about to implode; wouldn't it stand to reason that the "world" would be better off working together to mend the world economy? Well, what I know about economics could fill a thimble, so I'll leave it at that. Just a curious thought
on my part.

I personally think that's one of the critical questions: What is the role of centralization in the coming storm?
When people face a Big Problem, they tend to look for a Big Fix. In this case, a "world-government" to solve world-straddling issues.
But what happens if the Big Fix is part of the Big Problem? There is a kind of One Ring quality to looking for ever-more-centralized solutions to ever-more-centralized causes. Everyone wants to grab it. Are we sure that Sauron has not already grasped the Ring of Power?

Hahahaha - you are so funny! So "there's no hope! Whaaaa! We're doomed!" And yet Trump with the help of his Republican friends found a way to line their pockets with billions of fresh American tax dollars. He did that, did he not?

I sure hope you will find it in your heart to repeat that when I'm down and need a laugh. I think as SGG alludes to, markets are cyclical, so no genious award for you, sorries.
BTW, I keep seeing you referencing our "economic problems" - what are they exactly? I see nothing but growth and financial wellness, especially if you are wealthy. Employment is shiny - what are our "problems" that you continually whine about?

This isn't about Trump. Trump didn't create the problems, and he can't possibly solve them.
I beg to differ. First, I never said he "created" the problems, but he certainly has contributed to them. The Tax Thing for starters. And you're right, "he can't possibly solve them", hence my comment that his statement "can not stand." Again, I'm no expert, but according to those who are, he's applying pressure to the
wrong area. His actions could bring about a recession at a time when the fragile economy needs pinpoint "surgery" and not a sledgehammer.

Careful now, we may be on the same chapter, if not the same page. Cycles do come in a variety of colors, shapes and sizes. I'm all for Reform and Change, but at what cost? And to whom? The "little guy" can ill afford to play economic poker.
Trump's moves have benefitted large corps and CEOs, but for us little guys - the sky is falling seems appropriate.

I know, infrastructure alone is not the answer. By the way, what infrastructure are you talking about? I always thought that it meant bridges, roads, schools, airports and public transport. Yes, sometimes I've been accused of thinking and sprout forth ideas that go somewhat against the grain.
I'll come to the Big Question in a little while. Right now, I need to run some errands.
