I've done cocaine 7 times in my life. Managed to say no to it until my 24th birthday, but finally gave in that night for some reason even though it had been around me all the time for 5 or 6 years before then.
I never did anything particularly stupid while on it, but when you're brain is shooting mega doses of serotonin into your system, everything you think sounds like the best idea in the world. I can't even imagine what the more hardcore drugs like Crack and Meth and any of these other drugs made from cooking pharmaceuticals will do to you.
Fortunately for me, I made it a point to never befriend any dealers so it wasn't readily available to me at any time. Even more fortunate that unlike some of my friends who regularly did it, I would crash extremely hard and be useless for a day or two afterward so even though it was pretty much the most amazing feeling in the world I would say no unless I was stupid drunk and didn't have any plans for the weekend, which was pretty rare back in those days.
This guy probably wasn't a genius before he got involved with them, but it might not be a question of intelligence here.
I know that you're as straight edged as they come, JSF, so you couldn't possibly understand.
I'm certainly not advocating anybody use any hard core drugs or condoning this behavior. Just giving a different perspective on the issue.

Okay, SECOND ... speaking of slow learners ... what does your posting this article tell us about YOU?
Well, you hate Republicans with a passion. It's more than a passion, it's an idée fixe with you, an obsession that you return to over and over:
Republicans - especially Texas (boo hiss) Republicans - are unspeakably evil and incapable of learning. And Trump belongs in a class of contempt all his own, but Democrats will save the day!
But apparently, according to the article, Trump is killing the GOP chances this election. So the logical conclusion is that you should LIKE Trump, because he is damaging the GOP, even more than the Democrats could. He might not be your friend, but a force for change .... in some fashion, even a force for good.
Now, why might you not be able to process that?

Will it break into factionz? Will it fade away az voterz pick candidates based only on their pozitionz and qualificationz?
Or will another party fill the vacuum left by the GoP, providing the essential opozition?

Unless the Congressman in the story was a journalistic invention, that Congressman was saying some truths about Trump that Signym and other voters for Trump ought to know. I've known Trump-like characters in Texas. I would never do a second business deal with them because they break their promises, but Trump voters don't have much common sense about untrustworthy people. If you two think that this is a matter of "conservative" versus "liberal", then I'd say that NEITHER of you has learned a damn thing about politics since you've been posting here!
It's not about "conservative" or "liberal", it's about money, it's all about money and it's always been about money. BOTH parties are essentially corrupt, and the Democratic vision is just as abhorrent as the Republican one, and in some ways a whole lot creepier.

That doesn't take into consideration that I don't have a mortgage, I own my own home and car free and clear, I don't have any interest payments to anybody, yada, yada, yada...
My middle class neighbors have no clue that I'm not middle class based on some arbitrary numbers of income provided by some feds in suits. Neither does the local government who gets their income tax payments early every 6 months and never gets complaints from anybody that I don't maintain my property.
I'm semi retired. I've been that way since I bought my house with cash when I was 32.

Obviously you've never been around kids before. Rich or poor. Rich kids are some of the hardest drug abusers out there. They just tend to be able to get their hands on more expensive designer drugs.
I'm assuming you didn't go to college either? Neither did I, to be fair, but I was at college parties so much that people who attended classes there saw me so much they would ask me what my major was.
Doing drugs is not at all an indicator of your "class status".
Taking my candor about my misguided past and trying to it against me in a personal attack tells us a lot about how classy you are though.
