Another promise broken by Trump, made to his national security advisors:

On May 24, Trump’s national security advisors — who, with Flynn gone, overwhelmingly have conventional American views on Russia and NATO — gave the New York Times a heads-up that Trump’s speech at the NATO conference in Brussels would affirm his commitment to the alliance’s core guarantee of collective security.
Then when it came time to give the speech, Trump didn’t do that.
His advisors later turned around and insisted that, of course, the United States remains committed to the North Atlantic Treaty and its critical Article V pledging that an attack on any NATO member will be regarded as an attack on all NATO members. And, in reality, that is a legally binding treaty obligation of the United States whether Trump likes it or not. The fact of the matter is, however, that these same advisors believed they had talked Trump into making a public affirmation of this and then he refused to do it.
To undermine NATO in this way has been a core goal of Russian (and, earlier, Soviet) foreign policy as long as NATO has existed. And through all the ups and downs of the Cold War and post-Cold War eras, Russia has never scored a success on that front until Donald Trump’s continued refusal to affirm that the United States will defend its allies. Why exactly Trump won’t do that remains a mystery.

I'm curious what people think that Trump has actually DONE. It looks like some of his surrogates tried to open up lines of communication with Putin. I can see how that would be helpful to avoid all out war with Russia. For example: "Vlad, I'm pretty sure they didn't do it but everyone here's howling about how Syria supposedly chemically attacked a small, non-strategic village. I have to do SOMEthing to get people off my back, politically speaking. How about I bomb a Syrian airfield? Can we not escalate from that?" Talking to the Russians, especially Putin, could be a real world-saver. And hell, even Reagan privately talked with Gorbachev. (And from thence came the START missile treaty. http://www.nytimes.com/1987/12/09/politics/09REAG.html?pagewanted=all&
amp;mcubz=1 https://www.armscontrol.org/act/2004_07-08/Reagan)
It's not treason for Trump to talk with Putin. Or even illegal.
So - what has Trump DONE that people are so upset about?

So 1kiki, why all the lies? Why not just say that? Why ask for immunity? Why not come forth if nothing wrong was done? Why set up a line of commination in the Russian Embassy, where you need to go to the Embassy to speak to Putin, when all they need do is pick up a phone?

There is a "leaked" public transcript of the call between Trump and Duterte, President of the Philippines. On the call, Trump enthusiastically endorsed Duterte’s murderous "drug war" and repeatedly addressed the possibility of a U.S. nuclear strike on North Korea. Maybe when talking to the Russians, Trump is talking about worse actions than nuking N Korea and public executions without arrest or trial. I can see why he needs a secure back channel to avoid leaks similar to this one from the Philippines.

As with Nixon, follow the money. Russian banks and loans. Also, what Jared Kushner tried to do was not create a backchannel to Russia. The parameters of a backchannel are entirely different from what he tried to do. What Jared was trying to do is set up a covert communications channel with an enemy.

Yep. Follow the money. Exactly what I said to do weeks ago.
This isn't exactly 1940.
Unless they were trading in Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoon bags of cash that's all very easy to track these days.
Makes you wonder why we're still talking in theoreticals, doesn't it?

Quote:There is no reason to wonder. It is not easy to track bribery. Getting a conviction is even harder. For a real example: There is a story about a Russian bribing Erdogan with $25,000,000. It wasn't bags of cash or even electronic transfers between banks. Trump’s bribery could be just as complex and difficult to expose. Trump is actually tied into the story of Erdogan taking bribes.

This story took 8 years before it was revealed. Slow investigations are typical. Being caught taking a bribe has not gotten Erdogan sentenced to jail. He is still President and he denies everything. Any bribes Trump is taking today might be (or not) revealed in 8 years, after he is out of office. Trump will deny everything, just like Erdogan. It is the smart move.

Then it sounds to me like they've got nothing.
The MSM should be reporting on things that are actually happening, not dealing every single day in theory.
