But I do remember when Jayne was an enemy of Trump and a big fan of Senator Ted Cruz of Texas because Cruz was the devout Christian and Trump was the fake Christian.

After the nomination for Presidential candidate was won, Jayne switched loyalties to Trump, despite Trump not showing any more Christian virtues or piousness than he ever has. The fact that millions of Christians could make that flipflop for Trump explains much about them. A Christian who supports Trump either does not understand Trump's positions or supports him in spite of Christian convictions in the same way that a person cannot be a vegetarian and devour a supper of Texas barbecue.

My mistake.

I meant Alec Baldwin.

Sorry Adam. :)

Oh well. You gave me an opportunity to launch an attack on Jayne's nuttiness. I've got another attack on nuttiness and this is more substantial than Jaynesque Christians lacking important Christian virtues. I hope you understand how nuts this next example is. I'm certain Trump did not understand ( or else he would not have done it ) and that may be too bad for my tax cut.

After Trumpcare failed, President Trump insisted that he had no hard feelings toward Paul Ryan. Ryan had worked hard on the health care bill, and it was just bad luck that it failed. In fact, it was really the fault of the Democrats, who hadn't provided a single vote. Not one!

About 18 hours later, Trump turned on Ryan: "Paul Ryan needs to step down as speaker of the house. The reason? He failed to deliver the votes on his healthcare bill."

ssiest-way-possible

Trump doesn't have the guts to tell Ryan to his face, so instead he uses a TV show to pass along the message.

The real message is that no one should ever work with Trump. He'll throw you under the bus at the first hint that he needs someone to take the blame for something that went awry.

Trump made a HUGE political miscalculation if Ryan should believe Trump and quit. When John Boehner retired as Speaker and Kevin McCarthy flamed out, Republicans were literally left with no plausible candidates for Speaker who were acceptable to all factions of the party. Ryan was the only one who came close, so if he quits then the GOP is in for some real chaos. That's just what they don't need as they try to get a budget in place and start work on a complex tax cut for me and the rich.

. . . in the past two months we've had a botched raid in Yemen; two attacks in Syria with heavy civilian casualties; and now an airstrike in Mosul that left hundreds of civilians dead. It's fair to wonder if a guy whose idea of military strategy is to "bomb the shit out of ISIS" has also decided that he doesn't much care about civilian casualties while he's doing it.

Why would you hire a woman who's a House of Saud puppet? Why would you curry favor with the leaders of a violent coup just to get your son a lucrative position in Ukraine?

It would be foolish to fight this progress for many reasons. Unless you're insane, most people would never go back to doing things the old fashioned way when they already have tools at their disposal.
When you cage animals, feed them well, and treat them humanely, they go 'crazy'. They exhibit all sorts of pathological behaviors - excessive grooming, pacing, eating, sleeping, sexual activity, aggression, and so forth. That's because they can't engage in the survival activities that evolution has programmed them for.

And we are, after all, animals. The more abstracted and remote our activities become from survival activities, the less meaningful and rewarding they are.

At this point we need automation, because there are too many people to support in any other way than industrial strip-mining of resources - soil, wood, sealife, energy, water, and even air.

But it doesn't make it psychologically healthy for us.

At some point, assuming humanity survives and learns from its mistakes, we may need to keep enough technology to provide us things we wouldn't otherwise have, but return to husbandry, practical crafts, and so on, for our own well-being.

Yeah, let's impeach Obama. Wait... we missed our chance, damn.

I was calling to have GWB impeached back in 2006.

If you've suddenly all grown a conscience and this stuff bothers you over the last two months, I wonder where you've been the last dozen or so years.

“There’s a playbook in Washington that presidents are supposed to follow that comes out of the foreign-policy establishment,” Obama said. “The playbook prescribes responses to different events, and these responses tend to be militarized. Where America is directly threatened, the playbook works. But the playbook can also be a trap that can lead to bad decisions.”

I’ll be sad to see that attitude gone from the White House.
