No problem, makerofpaths. It just seems to be the most logical assumption to make. But I am also very sure that although Joss would love to become the next big thing as a film director, he would still like to bring Firefly back to the small screen. It is the only venue appropriate for the heavy story arc he obviously had in mind from the start.

I agree EC. With the ratings woes FOX is having now...a show like "Firefly" would be just what they would need as long as Joss had the final say...but have they learned their lesson? I tend to think not.

I would love to have Firefly back on the air. I didn't discover the show until the DVDs came out. After 10 years, what are the chances the actors and producers would want to resurrect Firefly for television? More than likely, they will want to work on other projects, rather than return to a show that was on tv ten years earlier.

Not sure I follow your logic. Serenity is a go, he is telling the story of that ship in another format. The movies can tell one story over two hours or so, but there may be other stories set in that universe that could be told in a TV format. Realistically, the series can't (for apparently contractual reasons) transfer back to the small screen with the same cast - if they are still making Serenity movies when the TV option comes available, what price the entire cast going back to 8-9 months making TV at whatever their salaries would be?
I just don't understand how a spin off series somehow offends you so much in the present circumstances, or at all.

Ten YEARS! I wasn't planning on living that long.

Well, to my mind, a spin-off would mean no original cast because they're still doing the movies. So there's that. And since Firefly's success hinges on its characters, there's a huge problem right there. Plus, as I mentioned somewhere else, once you start relentlessly mining a deep and rich 'verse with spin-offs it becomes less deep and rich and more shallow and poor.
As things stand, looks like we should just accept that the story has gone to films and be thankful.

Because Joss has never managed to create a spin off in the same universe with different characters which worked before....
