Amazon's DVD sales list..... somethin seem a might bit funny?

Was checkin the list of where Firefly ranks in its sales here on the site. For about the last 2 weeks, it shows Firefly flatlining at 43. High, Low, it don't matter... whats up w/ these numbers ? I'm no sales guy, but it seems there's a glitch somewhere. There should be more fluxuation than that!

There is definately something amiss with the Amazon stats. The Firefly DVD set has been listed as high as 21 in the past couple of weeks.

Yes, but I just saw it listed at somewhere around 83 today. It seems that there is a lot of variation, with a mid-point of about 50. I think that Amazon must use some kind of statistical smoothing function (like a multi-day moving average) to determine sales ranks.

I've also noticed that it seems to be ranked higher during the week, but lower on weekends - I can't explain that one. Any ideas?

I'm wondering if there is something out of date with Haken's script ( http://www.fireflyfans.net/amazon.asp ). The current ranking on amazon is 59. Just looking at the chart, it seems things got stagnant around the early part of May.

editted to add a note on sales rank: I'm not sure exactly how close the DVD rankings mirror book rankings. It's definitely a relative measure.
