The last minimum wage increase was in 2009 by your hero. It was 70 whole cents per hour. 10 whole years of stagnation at the very bottom while the price of everything has gone up 50% on average. 58% of American's don't have a thousand bucks to their name in the case of emergency.

My point is, you don't have an alternative to argue for. Until you do, don't talk to me about my voting choices in this arena as if you know anybody who has the solution.

There are no Republican lawmakers who will vote for $15/hour minimum. With them, it is a principle. The Democrats are a little better, being willing to increase the minimum, but only gradually, because 38% of voters are working at greater than $20/hour. Those better paid voters hate service workers being paid enough to join the middle-class. Those voters will punish Democratic lawmakers who raise the minimum. Sadly, the people making less than $20/hour aren't willing to force a raise and I do mean force, like punch their boss. When was the last time you even heard of somebody making close to minimum wage confronting their boss for a raise?

We need a National Holiday: Bring Your Gun To Work Day. Make your boss worried that somebody might actually fight back for higher wages.

Yeah. It's an extremely tricky subject.

Because of the way everything works, there's no saying if raising the minimum wage would even help. Not just because of the Republican scare stories about how everything will just cost more, which could be true, but because without an entire revamp to the numbers for public aid, it would immediately put millions of Americans outside of the reach of things like food stamps, medicaid, energy assistance, EIC, etc...

This means that even raising the minimum wage to 15 might not have any net positive impact on the lowest earning workers at all because of the large loss of public assistance that would immediately follow.

I'm in that situation now, and I only make about 50% above minimum wage. Without any kids, EBT is out of the question. I mean, I would be accepted, but I'd only be getting roughly 11 bucks a month for it. In an entire year I wouldn't get as much as I was getting per month at KMart on minimum wage. My point being that it's nice making a little more money, but it's almost zeroed out by loosing over $2,300 tax free in food stamps that I got at minimum wage.

Note that I'm not bitching here since I'm comfortable. I'm just stating the facts and I can really empathize with the situation you brought up and to those people who are truly treading water while this goes on.

Then... there's the other point that you make....

If somebody is making $20/hr right now. They're doing fairly well
