I remember this wonderful TV show when I was a kid of 12-13 years old. It was an instant hit on Channel 4 because James Bond was all the rage at the time (they call it trending now) and NBC took advantage of the craze by introducing this show.
Napaleon Solo and Ilya Kuryakin were 2 of the coolest spies on TV. But, of course, no one could beat James Bond. Now we have the feature length movie coming out with Armie Hammer, Henry Cavill (yes, that Henry Cavill) and Alicia Vikander (the stunner from Ex Machina). Oh! and directed by Guy Ritchie...........this is gonna be awesome!
Not only will it be filled with exciting, rough & tumble action, it's gonna be funny as well.
I'm there!

I was a fan of the show in the beginning, but I've tried watching it recently and it doesn't do anything for me now. This is another movie I have no interest in. I know that won't surprise you.

I saw a few minits uv the show last week.
I dont want to spoil your enthuziazm, but it wuz total junk. They seemed to put no effort into making the action believable. Its almost impossible that the movie coud be that bad, so maybe it will actually be good.

David McCullum, he was one of the cool spies on UNCLE with perhaps the coolest sounding name (other than Napoleon Solo). He was Ilya Kuryakin.
And no, I'm not sad nor surprised at the Suck Quotient of the Fantastic Four. The first one was passable only because of the perfect casting of the Thing (Michael Chiclis) and Johnny Storm or the Torch (Chris Evans). I must say that, as much as I loved Jessica Alba in Dark Angel, I was not impressed with her as Sue Storm, nor that guy playing Reed Richards (he was lame). Personally I think Tom Hiddleston would have made a excellent Reed Richards or Mr. Fantastic. Elizabeth Banks as Sue Storm.

I totally agree, there's only one Ilya Kuryakin. Brenda we are now officially 2 big dorks! ;-)

Of course it's not going to be the same as when we were kids. I was a sucker for, as I am today, any type of fantasy, swashbuckling, sword and sandal epic that would come along. I was the biggest dork for 007, and Man from UNCLE was my weekly fix of Spy vs. Spy.
I tried watching an old Abbott & Costello movie about a year ago, "Who Done It?" and boy was it dated. Still love Buck Privates though.
As an aside, how many watched the wonderful Avengers with Mr. Steed and Mrs. Peele?
BTW EC, I know that your tastes run on a totally different plane, so yes, it's not a surprise.

Poor scriptwriting and even poorer direction. Somehow the age of Comic book heroes is coming to an end, and none too soon. At the beginning a few years back directors like Marc Singer really took it seriously and gave his all. The only other one to lend this genre credibility was Joss.
Thankfully the trend will change course, hopefully for the better.
