I think Star Wars VII is likely to top it, although I'm not that interested in it.

“Avengers: Age of Ultron” took China by storm this week, scoring the country’s second highest-grossing debut in history.

The superhero sequel has made $156.3 million in its first six days in the People’s Republic, behind only “Furious 7” when it comes to China openings. Those big numbers pushed “Avengers: Age of Ultron’s” global total to $1.1 billion, making it the eighth highest-grossing film of all time.

The film topped foreign charts again, pulling in $185 million from overseas territories in its fourth week of international release.

Still, these movies are all action and special effects without much substance.

There is another movie with more substance than Ultron that also has a robot as the central character. Ex Machina is considered to have “substance” if you believe metacritic www.metacritic.com/movie/ex-machina
or Film Critic Hulk

But, and it is a big butt, Ex Machina sold only $29,048,268 in tickets. www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=exmachina.htm

In the world you live in, substance loses to flashy, trashy movies. See for example Furious 7, which sold worldwide $1,488,800,000 in tickets. www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=fast7.htm

Ex_Machina is most definitely a thinking person's SF film. Highly recommended.

Some of my thinking was incorrect, some of the foreshadowing is herring. Also the most nekkidness I've seen in cinema this year.
