They're still talking about river flood warnings until Tuesday, but I'm not really sure why with not much chance of rain the next few days. Maybe other people in the area got hit really hard.

But it will be nasty cold the next 3 days and nights, and I don't see 40 degrees in the forecast for the next 15 days. Bummer...

Lucky you SIX. Now it is the eastern part of Canada taking the hits. BC should be starting to warm up now that this hopefully latest storm has moved on through. Expecting rain over the next few days, so snow will start to melt but that will make a huge, yucky mess for walking and driving.

If ever there were a reason to want to make your trim cuts as perfect as you can make them, caulking would be it.

I want to add that staying well hydrated is good for coughing as well.

I've found I can help convert an irritating hacking cough into a lung-clearing one by closed-mouth wheezing. Without being too gross, I can sometimes literally feel bubbles popping in my airways and consolidating into a real cough. It sure beats the hack hack hack hack hack hack ...

Anyway, yesterday was the worst. I crawled (back) into bed around 9 AM feeling like a block of ice and hurting everywhere, and just stayed there and didn't wake up again until after 4 PM.

Yeah, that's similar to me. I was symptomatic - headache, cough, earache - until day 4, when I just became completely debilitated.

Anyway. I'm definitely on the mend, yay!!!
I'm so happy to hear that!

Yeah... fluids didn't help much last time the chest crap lingered. I could stand to be more hydrated these days, living on coffee all day long, but back when I was working overnights I probably drank 1/2 gallon to a gallon of water per day. I'll keep it in mind though.

Caulk, like anything else, is just something you get better at as you do it. Everything I did looks fantastic, but that's a lot of touch up work with the sponge that I owe that to. Though I was far from perfect by the time the work day was ending, the process went along much faster and much less sponge work was needed. I would have completed every single piece of baseboard and door casings that have been put up so far, but I ran out of my 2nd tube of caulk midway through the last side of the last damn door... As much as I'd like to just finish that door now, I'm not going to open a fresh tube when I don't know exactly when I'll have enough other stuff to kill it. It's not a critical door since it's not one of the ones I'm hanging, so no big deal.

That took way longer than I though it would, but doesn't everything?

So all of the frames/casings are ready to paint where I need it before the doors go up. Tomorrow the plan is to paint the two coats on the back sides of both bedroom doors and get all of those door frames painted. While I'm doing that, I'm going to try to get as much of the window casings painted that I can fit on the horses, and I should have my kitchen and living room tables back in a few days after the doors dry and I hang them.

All that I need to do to finish the doors up then is to spackle the nail holes and paint the faces of the casings.

Slowly but surely it's getting done.

Coldest freakin' night of the season so far and the power goes out at midnight.

Thank god it came on 20 seconds later. I didn't want to start burning the trim I haven't used to keep myself warm, and I really didn't want to have to get my generator running in near sub zero temps. I wouldn't have needed it for the sump now probably since it's all frozen, but I don't have a cord long enough to get to the furnace.

5 years without a single power outage, and now I've had 3 in the last 3 months.

Hey KIKI, I have a quick medical question about this flu since we both seen to have it..

As usual, my trachae and bronchi fare the worst ... I wheeze and crackle and pop and whistle in several different place when I breathe. The thing that concerns me is that today, when I was supposedly getting better, I couldn't manage a 3/4 mile stroll without getting woozy and feverish, but had to go back to bed and sleep for another 2 hours!

We've been managing with various OTC meds- for me decongestant nose spray and saline rinses (because amazingly-colored stuff in there) and lots and lots of cough syrup, every four hours like the bottle says. Hoping to break this cough up faster but the wheezing and goop is coming from a lot deeper than I'm used to, and sometimes bright green.

So, here's the question: At what point do I draw the line and see a doctor? Worried that I might "manage" myself into pneumonia. What should I be on the lookout for?

Don't you have one of those clinics around you? The one by me doesn't do much, but the flu is one of the things on their short list. They're fairly cheap. I only ever went to one of them once when I had strep and they cleared it up cheap and quick.

Yeah... we got that mess right now Brenda. Streets are probably fine by now, but otherwise it's an ice rink out there.

EDIT: F'in hell, it's cold now. 5 degrees with a real feel of -14.

If I'm going to finish painting those bedroom doors in the basement today I might have to take the thermometer down there and see if it's even warm enough to do that.
