My boss who I think I have mentioned is a medical doctor talked about how the universe is a perfect place and there must be. I sat there thinking no the universe isn't a perfect place as black holes serve no real purpose. No light and they suck things into them. I didn't mention the danger of asteroids or meteorites.
Maybe they thought they were just "having a conversation". Or maybe they really were actively trying to convert you to something (altho what they were trying to convert you to is a little unclear.)
Either way, these people are effing clueless. I've been a boss at work, supervising a team of up to 13 professionals performing forensic analyses and research for environmental regulation enforcement. I've been a boss at home, since we needed a careiver to watch our daughter when she wasn't at school and while we were at work, and I have NEVER had "conversations" about sensitive topics (race, religion, politics, world economics) with subordinates because no matter how much we like to think that we're all equals in the opinion sphere those conversations can never be equal. It would be too easy for someone to feel that they have to shut up and listen to me pontifcate; and a terrible imposition on their freedom. Not only that, it would be illegal, since it would also be too easy for anyone to claim that I was "harassing" a protected class or creating a "hostile work environment". I saved the few conversations that I had for non-subordinates and a non-work environment, and political conversations were few and far between.
Anyway either way your boss shouldn't be imposing their opinions on you, either inadvertently or deliberately, from a position of being the one who writes the check.

Yes, their brand of Christianity. The husband is or was a preacher for the United Church? I think. I don't one brand of that insanity is the same as the other to me.

That 3" of predicted rain over 3-4 days has dwindled to 1" over 2 days. By the time it (almost) gets here it will be 0.5" over one day, maybe.
Sigh.
Well, I'm trying to get the weeds sprayed. That little rainstorm germinated a bunch of weeds, again. I was hoping that by aggressively weeding last year before seed-set and spreading corn gluten pre-emergent weed preventer I'd see some lasting benefit, but it looks like there are almost as many weeds sprouting this year as before, so I'm going to use a weedkiller. (I wish I had a little flame-thrower!) I have two: a "natural" weedkiller and roundup. They're going in a head-to-head competition, but I have to troubleshoot the roundup sprayer first because the pump is working but no liquid is flowing.
I'm also experimenting with drying this year's tremendous feijoa fuit-fall. That's the thing about feijoa: You can't pick it early and ripen it off the tree, you have to wait for the fruit to fall, and when it does it falls all at once. Far too much to eat and share with neighbors and friends. I tried making jam last year but I wasn't happy with the flavor and it would have taken too much sugar to make the jam set properly so this year I'm trying an oven-drying method. If it dries properly and family tells me the flavor is good I might make a sun-drying rack for next year, assuming that I have the time, because it would be good for drying a lot of things.

I don't think we're completely beyond the possibility of having at least one more Santa Ana, but the ones we had a couple weeks ago were chilly at night though warm during the day. Those were as opposed to blazing, fire-starting hot Santa Anas which we had a few weeks before that. Such is the desert where the Santa Ana blows in from, on its way out to the ocean.
We do seem to be into fall/winter. Where I am, which is the inland foothills, where summers get hotter and winters get colder due being away from the moderating ocean effect, and rains generally are wetter due to the elevation, there are a few nights predicted to be getting close to freezing at about 35F.
Yep - here I get freezing weather in sunny SoCal during winter.
I'm also predicted to get rain. Fingers crossed.

DAMN about the weeds!!! I haven't done it yet but I myself am going to experiment with vinegar (agricultural/30%), and a little soap (actual liquid soap, not detergent), sprayed with an all-plastic hand-pump sprayer (a larger version of the type you get with say Clorox Clean-up; the large generic version purchased at Ace). Online I see the knockdown is pretty good. But again online I see resprout rates are high. But nobody seems to have tried respraying and respraying to finally exhaust the damn weeds to death! But that's why years ago I came to be in favor of hardscape and mulch landscaping, because of dealing with weeds at the time. Still, once I get past my backlog I'm trying to get unburied from, I hope to experiment with the natural weedkiller, on a repeat schedule. It may make a wider variety of easier gardening possible.
I sometimes dry things in my convection oven on shallow-rimmed cookie sheets. I set it as low as it will go (170F) for convection to get the air circulation, and set up a few racks. I actually purchased a couple extra oven racks from the mfg so I can get an oven-full going. What looks like a lot when you have it on the tray shrinks down to nothing! An oven-full of fresh goes down to less than a half-pound of dried. So far mostly I've dried vegetables for snacks, but it would be nice to make jerky, and maybe fruit leathers.
You seem to be further along on the natural weedkiller and oven-drying projects.
PLEASE let me know how they turn out! I have a lot of interest in those!

Ok so the more naturalweedkiller (Natria) seems to have "burned" the weeds, but only where I really, really soaked them. Not economic, I would have to use an entire bottle for a small part of the yard, and SOME weeds seemed to be resistant even when soaked. Not sure why those particular ... they were dandelions, spruge and such, just like the weeds that "burned".
AFA the Roundup ... something wrong with the pump itself, with both ends of tubing open the pump makes noise but liquid doesn't flow. So I rinsed the Natria pump and used that for the Roundup. I'll let you know what that looks like tomorrow and what both look like the day after.

AFA fruit-drying, I followed the generic advice of cutting the feijoa in 1/4" slices and putting them on lined trays with the oven on low and the door propped open slightly, and they DID dry out sucessfully. They are pretty sour and a little sweet, dd things they're too sour and hubby likes them. I can't tell whether they still have the light esters that make up the flavor, but my next batch I'll slice and sprinkle with a goodly amount of sugar and stir before drying and see if the sweet/sour balance is better.

Managed to find the charger cable, charge up the portable jump-starter, start the car, read the odometer, and run the car on high idle for 30 minutes. I hope that will charge the battery for at least a week. I learned that you CAN'T leave lead-acid batteries sit uncharged as you will do permanent damage and reduce their performance.
Hubby put up dd's curtains today, with our help.
I learned the key to making beef acceptable to hubby, but I'm going to put it in the recipes thread.

I can't imagine what the process is that causes damage, but I always wondered why - if you let a car - with a perfectly good battery - sit for a couple of months, the battery was dead. I thought it was something to do with the specific battery. But it sounds like a generic thing.
