i just read on another site that a live action version of Akira is going to be made:

t=Development+Heck

does anyone know if this site is reliable or have any more info about the movie itself (cast)?

There has been talk of this for a couple of years but you can check this out if you want. Its probably a good thing cos WB would probably mess it up anyway, you just need to look at the rubbish they've been churning out over the last while.....
http://www.geekroar.com/film/archives/000512.php this was as of january this year. Norrington left the project and its since been put on the back burners so too speak.

thanks for the link. i was thinking that a live action version of akira might be a mixed blessing. the original animated version is very impressive for 1988 and it would be a shame to overshadow that with the technology available now since CGI films are so popular (shrek, finding nemo, the upcoming polar express). still, any time a studio attempts a remake of a classic film, i always have to hold my breath. sometimes this works out pretty well (such as ) and sometimes it falls flat on its face (such as ). i think feature film versions of other anime series would be pretty neat, though. there is definitely a market for those kinds of pictures in the US as evidenced by the growing number of 2D animated features that have been released in the US lately (princess mononoke, spirited away).
