You're talking about the Berkeley Psychic Institute and Noetics. NOETICS.

The paragraph above quoting me says where I was and what I
thought about it. A personal vignette. It was in 1973, BTW.
The only thing you can prove for yourself in my statement is
that both of those organizations exist, or in the case of BPI,
I'm not sure it's still a working entity. Of course, there are
still people around who honed their skills there.

The "absolute truth" is IoNS & BPI exist(ed) and plenty of
people know it first hand.

The existence of IoNS and BPI does not prove the validity of
PSI ... so please don't pretend to think I said that.

Please don't pretend you don't think there's truth to psi and noetics, otherwise you wouldn't be having that conversation or saying what you have about skeptics.

You can believe what you want, and if I don't agree the most you'll get from me is an eyeroll. What sets me off is when certainty and superiority dominate the tone of the discussion.

There is truth to PSI IMO. That truth is usually subjective.
Many people receive information via a psychic ability daily,
IMO. They cannot prove it. They shouldn't have to until the
time comes when scientists will look at it objectively.
So far, PSI is not scientifically proven.

Second quotes Aldiss, 3 paragraphs of it. I narrowed in on
"finds ready credence among the gullible." I responded to
Aldiss with "So ... [he thinks] he knows the limits of the
'Verse? I find that gullible."

More accurately, I might have said I find his rejection of
the possibility of real psychic occurances to be "certainty
and superiority" where it's not justified & an open & curious
approach to the topic seems better.

I expect you to continue to misrepresent everything I say.
That's been my experience with you. It is not a sin for me
to speak with certainty of the things I know.

Both sides are certain and think they know the truth and think the other side is gullible. It is the most frustrating thing about any discourse between scientists and the fringe.

I wouldn't have made it past age five before someone decided I was a changeling. I'm not really sure you could call anything back then science, even medicine and alchemy would be kind of a stretch, but I concede that point.

The Berkeley Psychic Institute

In the 70's & even a bit in the 80's, I had contact with this group.
I got a number of readings & healings there. I was never interested
in becoming a student (disciple?), mainly because I have no talent
for it. If I were psychic, I think the energy in & around the group
would have sent me screaming from the room. I met 2 fellas there
who were good guys, upbeat, nurturing. They didn't stay long at BPI
but went off on their own. Good.

Now:
BPI does still exist with branches in Berkeley, Santa Rosa, & Sacramento.
Its founder, Lewis Bostwick, died in 1995. (That shouldn't stop him,
of course -- just the opposite. Is he still hanging about as a Spiritual
Guide & Reader?)

On YouTube are a number of exposé videos about BPI & Lewis Bostwick
by Jeffrey Watts, formerly an associate.

I don't hear Watts denying ESP. But that some practitioners are dishonest
