Surely not, Mike! I can't imagine either Perry OR the GOP hiding. They know they have the power to do what they want, the public be damned, and they've done it often enough before that I can't see it bothering them again this time. I'm sure they're completely untouched by the demonstration--ANY demonstration (unless, like the filibuster kerfuffle, it actually KEEPS them from doing what they want). Even then, they just turn around, call people names, and do what they want anyway.
They'll have their special session, pass the bill, Perry will sign it and things will go on just like before. For now at least. It will take a change in who has power in the government before they'll bat an eye at what their constituents want, surely.

It's also a reference to the Cannon Incident - TexASS being more or less founded by folks run out of every other halfway decent place on earth, often for good reason, and the Mexicans loaned them a small cannon to keep the pissed off (also having good reason to be given the conduct of the Texans) Comanche from slaughtering them in retaliation.
With a changing political situation internally and the increasing belligerence of their Texan guests, the Mexicans tried to take the cannon back only to be fired on and chased off (the Texan militia outnumbered them by 50% over and the soldiers were reluctant to kill them) by the Texans, which started a cascade failure of relations due to the Texans feeling they had the right to do as they pleased and the Mexicans feeling their hospitality had been betrayed, which is a much sorer point in many cultures other than ours.

Oh, in case it ain't abundantly clear, outside of a few misplaced souls like Mikey here, yeah, I do generally despise Texans, I lived there for almost a year and am well aquainted with their casual regional racism - they use the word "Yankee" like a racial slur, with exactly that kind of hate behind it - damn ignoramuses can't seem to grok that Maryland is SOUTH of the Mason-Dixon line, their general loudmouthed bullying, cowardice and perfidy, nor have other southern states forgotten what a fair weather friend they were back in the civil war....
And yanno, in 180 years, their conduct as a whole ain't improved a goddamn bit.

Au contraire, mon amí - they met for just a few minutes yesterday, with the full throng in full voice just outside, and they then quickly called a hurry-up recess and ran away. They're due back on July 9th - I think the idea at this point is to either keep cut-n-running until the crowd tires of the shenanigans, or do a "super secret" meeting unannounced to the public so nobody can protest.

I'd actually agree with that to a degree. That being said, blanket bans prevent women from having life saving terminations, or from being able to make decisions when severe abnormalities exist. Later term abortions should be made case by case by doctors and the mother.
Where you get blanket bans, in places like Ireland, you see women dying or having to travel while very ill because the ethos is fetuses life overrules mothers life. You don't want it to get like that in the US
