I'm currently preparing to have a great time at Redemption '13, an SF convention primarily for Blake's 7/Babylon 5 fans, though at our con anyone is welcome!
Anyway, on Sunday the episode "Jaynestown" is being shown; I thought we might turn it into a karaoke event, by printing out a dozen copies of the Ballad! Should be fun! This is partly to say thanks to the Redemption '11 crowd for introducing me to Firefly in the first place.
"Sixty thousand...untraceable...!" - you could just hear his pain, couldn't you?

Oh, we did, thanks, we totally did! I actually plucked up the courage to sing at two filk sessions, something I've never done before!
I think the Ballad counts as filk, anyway. So does Siren Song, by Vixy and Tony (who I discovered via a reference somewhere on this site); it's hilarious! You have to love a filk with lyrics like:
I'm thinking of firing my agent
His business sense isn't quite sound
He booked me to play at the Lincoln Memorial
And half of the audience drowned
I once worked a Holiday Cruise line
But I took international heat
Just for pulling some whalers a smidgeon off course
And the bulk of the Soviet fleet
Plus:
The girls I meet all think it's glamourous
Making guys fall at your feet
It's not pretty at all when the amorous fall
Begins twenty floors up from the street
And:
So I cancelled all maritime venues
Things began to go passably well
I played Burning Man, Farm-Aid, the Winter Olympics,
Some lip-synching on SNL
But now just when I think of relaxing
My agent is back in the saddle
I've got a world tour, and the cities for sure
Include Venice, Dubai, and Seattle!
What with filking, writing bad Blake's 7 fanfic, the Blake's 7 Drinking Game, a showing of Browncoats: Redemption and more, we had illegal amounts of fun! Sadly, it's only every two years, so roll on 2015!

Its only every two years? What kind of bum steer is that? Conventions are _supposed to be every year! Is that the only convention you have near enough to you?
A lot of people like humorous songs and filk, most filk seems to be humorous, though I know not all of it is. I see a certain place for humorous songs, they're cute and clever, but personally, as a performer, I don't ever perform humorous songs and I have a low patience threshhold for watching others do it. One silly song is about all I can handle in a stretch of performance time. Maybe I'm just no fun at all.

Why every two years? Damn, I forgot to ask them, again! Note to self: log into the Yahoo group and ASK!
And it's not a question of it being near to me; I live in Bolton and the con's in Coventry...trust me, it isn't close. No, it's more to do with being between jobs at the moment; I had one, and quite liked it, but I got laid off after 9 weeks due to downsizing. As a result, I can't go to all the cons I'd like to. Oh well.
