Well, yeah - although as mention I am not overfond of a lot of Joss's other work, must admit though "Bad Beer" and Angel as a puppet were hi-larious.

With The Avengers, what really sold me was the little things, the attention to detail that's just... MISSING, from films these days.

Like Stark putting his busted up suit together to fly from the carrier to Stark tower, JUST so he didn't have to "fly coach" in the Quinjet...

Coulson trying to keep a straight face while Stark and Pepper play snark-volleyball, or treating the brutal fight on the other end of the phone like it's boring hold music.

Loki watching Cap and Thor go at it, oh so OBVIOUSLY wishing for a bag of popcorn.

Loki crawling TOWARDS THE BAR when the team catches back up with him, guess he really *did* need a drink.

ANYTHING Nastasha says/does that isn't plot-related, various snarky comments, aside glances, and while subtle, the fact that she is really, really, very seriously scared totally witless of The Hulk, even BEFORE that whole chase thing.

The NYPD actually giving a respectable though debateably effective account of themselves.

Peter Jackson and Del Toro are also quite good at this, mind - but Joss has a knack for it.

I've only seen Serenity, Dr. Horrible, Firefly, Dollhouse, and the Avengers (in chronological order).

As you can guess, I like Firefly/Serenity best, and I also like them about equally, although they have different focuses and go different (equally important) directions. I confess that Serenity isn't as good without the background Firefly gives - at the time I was very impressed by the movie and thought it was more a more realistic take on the rebellious themes of Star Wars, but the movie didn't give me an attachment to the characters like Firefly did. So I kinda forgot about the movie until I found Firefly.

Next is Dr. Horrible, which is the only other Joss-work I've done fanfic about. I really like the world-building, with the suggested separate superhero and supervillain social scenes, and how the rivalry between the two is kinda destructive for the regular people caught between them, and both heroism and villainy are almost in name only. Plus the songs are catchy! The only downside here, although I liked the last plot twist as a Start of Darkness thing, there's some questionable elements about it.

Dollhouse is actually third for me, even though the execution for Dollhouse needed some work. But it had interesting philosophical themes.

Avengers was fun, a good blockbuster, but it doesn't have the kind of messages I like from Joss' work.

Don't know about the rest in terms of ranking. Didn't like Avengers or Cabin in the Woods much. Buffy is one of the most brilliant and important pieces of film/tv ever for me... Angel and Firefly aren't far behind, but Serenity was a big one because of the anticipation for the film and how it fulfilled my expectations and so much more.

Wow Alex87. That's very close to how I feel about Joss' work. I did like Avengers though.

°...Well here I am.°
