TVLINE.COM - We now have a name for the live-action Marvel comics project being developed by geek god Joss Whedon for ABC. Or, make that an acronym: S.H.I.E.L.D. A covert, quasi-military peace-keeping organization, S.H.I.E.L.D. (or the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division) was featured in this summer’s Avengers movie, which was penned and directed by Whedon, as well as in myriad Marvel comic books.

Congratulations to Joss.

Is this the first TV show he's done outside of Fox?

Interesting. I don't know if TV audiences are ready for this. It will also be odd if they don't include Nick Fury, Hawkeye or Maria Hill. From the comment that this won't directly tie into the movies it seems like they likely won't be regulars at least.

I wonder what the agents of SHIELD will be up to? If they have super villains to fight it might be too much for TV. Worth a shot though.

As much as Joss Whedon likes to work with the BDH or any other actors he worked with previously, i'm not sure it will be the first criteria when the casting call begins.
By that i mean that networks don't see Summer Glau as a big enough draw for the audience; and i'm saying this as a huge summer Glau fan.

I wonder if Joss Whedon will simply direct the pilot and leave the show to another showrunner, like JJ Abrams do, or will he also be the showrunner himself, like in Dollhouse?

So far being hired by Disney has been the best thing to happen to his career.
