I was wondering about the general response to this. Dismissing it out of hand seems to me that people didn't read the article.

It's not definitive, but that kind of scenario is a well known phenomenon.

I wonder if rabies - which was well observed in the past - was the prototype for vampire tales and zombie tales. Once bitten, you behave completely differently than you used to. What I find interesting about rabies is that it affects the behavior of animals not known to bite other animals either in hunting or fighting. So rather than change disposition towards aggression generally, to be acted out according to the species' template for aggression, it causes a very specific behavior of biting. Even cows will attempt to bite, rather than generally act 'aggressively' and charge. How can a virus cause such a specific action? What specific nerve tracts are altered to cause an animal to intend to bite, and then bite?

SignyM: I swear, if we really knew what was being decided about us in our absence, and how hosed the government is prepared to let us be, we would string them up.

You said "While we're at it why don't we just strangle my cat so I can bury another one" I still have no fucking clue what the hell you were talking about, but I assumed you were being flippant.
And yer right, I don't care about your cats, just the same as I wouldn't expect anyone to care about any of my dead pets. Take a chill pill.
