When Spike called Illyria as "Blue" tonight, did anyone else think of his calling Willow "Red"? Was that meant to be a very subtle reference, or does Spike just like to call people by names based on hair color? Or am I just reading WAY too much into this?

Actually, it's just something that they seem to do a lot on this show - calling people by nicknames that change depending on their current situation, appearance, whatever. It's not just Spike, they all seem to do it, although Lorne is the most prolific and rarely uses anyone's real name. For me, it's really one of the endearing qualities of the show.

One thing that I always really loved about BTVS, was that when Angel was Angelus he always referred to her as "Buff" and Angel never called her anything but "Buffy" Which of course made that moment when Angel was pretending to be Angelus to get info out of Faith, and called Buffy, "Buff" to further convince Faith that he is evil so great. Even though Buffy was in on the whole thing, it was still a fun scene. It would be fun to try to think of all the nicknames each of the cast members had, such as Faith always calling Buffy "B" God I found that annoying.

Geez, just listing all of them could take volumes, but it would be fun, as an excuse to go back and watch everything again. I agree about Faith calling Buffy "B", being annoying. Buffy found it annoying, too. Remember, she called Faith "F" once, just to make a point of it.
Mostly, people didn't react to their nicknames. Although I really liked the time that Angel told Lorne "Stop calling me pastries!". That was Hi-larious.

People seemed to react to Xander's nicknames for them -- Giles objected to G-Man and Angel to "Dead boy."

I just starting re-watching (fourth time through?) Ariel last night, and there IS the River line, "He looks better in red."
(keeping in mind that his shirt was Blue Sun to begin with - red, blue...hmmm...)
