OK all, I admit I caught almost all the episodes of Buffy on FX re-runs instead of when they originally aired, and only really got into Angel this last season (and am now watching TNT re-runs). But the cookie-dough reference on tonight's Angel - that ties back to Buffy, right? Early to mid third season if I remember right....? Any help, anyone?

It actually comes from the series finale, "Chosen" (maybe there's a reference earlier, but that's the only source I know). Buffy, explaining to Angel why she can't choose him or Spike yet, compares herself to cookie dough -- that is to say, she's still baking, and not ready to know what she wants or needs.

I totally cracked up laughing when he made that comment. Oh, this is a spoiler thread of sorts, yes? I guess the cookies are already in the oven, it's too late to stop baking, yes?

Another cookie dough reference-- at the very end of the last episode, someone (Faith?) asks something to the effect of "what do we do now?". In the episode, Buffy only sorta smiles; but in the novelization based on the last season, at that moment, her thought is cookie dough .

Nice little character moment, I thought.

Oh, bugger! Now I have to wait for someone to wake up!

Early days of Angel, but I just watched this last week

both from "I Will Remember You"

Cordy: "Yeah, and they didn't even have Cookie-dough-fudge-mint-chip when you were alive."
Angel: "Mmm, I want some! Can you get that?"

Buffy wearing a black robe smiles at him: "The perfect yum. (Angel feeds her a spoon of ice cream) Mmm, this is a dream. You're human for like a minute and already there is Cookie-dough-fudge-mint-chip in the fridge."
Angel: "God, I love food."
