Hello!
I am REALLY in love with this dress, but my google searches to find a place to buy it have not been successful. I have found a few places with instructions about how to make it, but unfortunately my sewing skills are not at all up to the tasks. Does anyone have a replica they are willing to sell or know someone who I can commission to make me one? Your help is greatly appreciated.
Best,
Hannah

Quote:Polly Gausewitz is enthusiastic about perfecting her very own homemade Kaylee dress. She might be persuaded to start a second dress for you. It is very presumptuous of me to think Polly would want to start another dress because I don't know her, but that won't stop me!

I started a page about Polly's dress: www.fireflyfans.net/mthread.asp?b=2&t=45531 On that page there are two youtube videos of her making that dress and a third showing her getting Jewel Staites' autograph on it.
This is where Polly put her pictures of the dress: http://bodici22.deviantart.com/ You can send a note to her by the button in the upper right-hand corner of that page.

Call FOX, it's most likely back in their woredrobe department. The last time it was used before that was "The King and I", I've called FOX before, those people love to help.

Well I have contacted both of those people and am waiting to hear back. I have also reached out to some costume designers to see if I can have them make a replica for me. Hopefully I will be able to get my hands on one without breaking the bank. I just sure do wish I was a better sewer myself.

I thught Shawna made it herself out of sari fabric from an Indian store in LA. The hoop skirt understructures for all the ladies' dresses in that scene were used in King and I.

For the hoop skirt, you could also make your own to go under any dress instead of making Kaylee's dress with one built in (or buying one). For mine, I took an extra length of siding (the kind that you put on a house) and cut it in inch and half strips. Use a nail or something sharp to poke holes every inch. Buy a skirt that is long enough and really wide and sew the cut/pierced siding onto the bottom of the skirt-be sure to use really thick thread. For a better hoop skirt do one or two more rings of siding part way up the skirt. The siding works really well because it is stiff enough to hold out the skirt but flexible enough that you can squeeze through a doorway without breaking it and sit without having a King and I moment.

You probably don't want duct tape, but you can message Toledo and see if she has any patterns.

That's what a ship is, you know - it's not just a keel and a hull and a deck and sails, that's what a ship needs.

Love this idea. A friend says make sure the siding is vinyl, not aluminum. LOL.

This is Kaylee's dress that she wears in the Firefly episode "Shindig". This was the most complicated costume I've ever made and it took FOREVER. So... many... ruffles...!
After not looking at it for over a week, I can now say that I'm pretty pleased with it. It is now available for commission or order on our website, Full and Lovely Cosplay: www.fullandlovelycosplay.com/projectsinprogress.htm
