Eliminate income tax & raise taxes on luxury items.
THEN things would be equal.
But rich peeps would HATE that. No tax loophole on a straight sales tax...

Just sayin'.
She is a socialist who wants to see the Federal Govt. control everything, every aspect of our lives. Is that what you want? You certainly 'aint no Browncoat if you do.
Then not a single person who ever voted for or supported Bush could be considered a Browncoat by any stretch of the imagination.

I guess you must be an artist, or some other self-employed person then. If so, you're lucky. Because the rest of us work for corporations. You're anti-corporate, huh? So things like Cars, TVs, Movies, Clothes, Food, DVD's, Hotels, Airlines, CD's, don't interest you; you likely boycott these products of evil corporations, right? Even those model spaceships you're so fond of building...guess what? Made by corporations.

I want the government to treat us with respect. Which it does not now.
Can't argue with that. Obama and his Democrat Congress have gone against the will of the American people on just about everything for the last 2 years. And if you criticize their arrogant and tone-deaf policies that have all failed, they call you a racist or a bigot or worse. Yeah, where's the respect there man?

Your logic does not follow. There must be some reason.
I could ask you the same question.
If Obama's deficits are bad, then why did you tolerate Bush's? They were the worst this nation had ever seen. And why do you hate Obama's deficits, when he added only a few percent to Bush's already unimaginable totals? Is it because Obama's dark-skinned?
Deficits aren't necessarily always bad, either. Do you have a mortgage? If so, when you bought your home, you ran a huge deficit that year. You spent far more than you made, and you borrowed to allow that spending.
Now, if you're doing great, making money hand over fist, you probably pay some extra towards the principal on that mortgage - paying down your personal deficit, as it were. If times were so great under Bush, shouldn't we have been paying DOWN the debt and running SMALLER deficits than in years past?
In a similar vein, if you get sick or have an unforeseen economic downturn that pops up, you can borrow against the equity in your house - running a short-term deficit as a bridge loan to get you to longer-term financial stability. That's when a deficit can be HELPFUL.
In bad economic times, governments typically SHOULD run a bit of a deficit. In GOOD times, they should pay those deficits and debts down.
That we didn't do that for 8 years under Bush, and you had no problem with it at all, says that either you don't care about deficits (unless a black man is in office) or you don't really believe the economy was booming.

That's a good idea. I like that. So long as it doesn't drive up living expenses, but I'm not sure how or if it could.
Unless. Sales taxes are probably going to hurt the people that are selling, though it evens out if most everyone's trade results in a product they can sell.
But if most of your foodstuffs are produced by a mega-corporation/conglomerate that also produces luxury goods... Hmm.
I think this idea would be most effective and least harmful if all business were small business. I'd recommend taking out the corporations first before trying to enact it. Even then there might be some problems depending on what the market looks like. You'll also probably want to fight down inflation so products are still affordable with tax, though the good news is if you're fighting down inflation you're also paying off debt. Maybe you can use money from dissolved corporations to do that.
Income tax is a scam, and was put into action about when the first national banks were organized. That pretty much says it all.

But what happens when taxes are high? If I have to pay 60 percent, then I'm left with only $40,000 and the government takes $60,000. That sucks. I don't want to "lose" all that money. So, what do I do instead? I re-invest it in the business, so I don't have to pay taxes!
If at the end of the year, my tax bill is zero, then I pay zero. Instead, by plowing the profits back into the business I help to grow it and make it even more profitable down the road. I might even hire more people with the extra money I kept in the business because that's a lot better option than just handing it over to the government.
So, higher taxes don't lead to more investment and higher employment because I'm a liberal who likes to give away my money to the government. They lead to those good results for the exact opposite reason -- because I don't want to give away my money to the government.
Logic, you can't beat it. Unless of course you have a lot of money and you just buy off the whole system. And that's where we stand now, with the truth turned on its head. But the next time someone claims tax cuts help the economy, don't let them get away with that bald-faced lie."

hmm-burble-blah, blah-blah-blah, take a left
That would make sense on paper and to anyone that is clueless. The reality is that most small businesses are LLC and are taxed as personal income and not Corporate rates(which can be an advantage over paying both rates if one chose Inc) So, the profits get taxed at the highest rates(in many occasions). In grown up land this leads to the "Partners" in an LLC to not hire, expand, or invest in their business. High personal taxes have the effect of high corporate taxes on LLCs. That is never a good thing. Raising taxes on the rich is to also raise the taxes on the economic engine of this country, the entrepreneur(note:I did not say "investor", which is not what we need now.

ROFL. Tell that to the millions of people that lost their homes, jobs, or families because of debt. I've read some pretty asinine things on this board, but that may take the cake.

Also, anyone who claims to be so dead-set against "Obama's deficits" (note that they don't claim to be against *deficits*, just OBAMA'S deficits!) would no doubt agree that the Bush tax cuts for the ultra-rich must be allowed to expire as they were originally designed to. That right there chops a HUGE chunk off the deficit and works towards paying down the national debt.
And since it's clear that they never created a single job, it should be an easy decision.
... or you could just admit that you really don't have any problem with deficits in the first place, UNLESS they're "OBAMA'S deficits".
