It would be prudent to know where the $$ came from, if it's known terrorists, who view the mosque as a triumph of Islam over the West, which is exactly why it's being put there in the 1st place.

This community center is being put there because there's a need for it there. There is a mosque there already, two blocks away, but it's overcrowded. They bought this land because it was cheap, because nobody wanted to build there. Apparently Americans are too afraid to actually build things anymore, but get irate when someone else tries to build something.
If you want to investigate where the funding comes for ALL religious institutions, go for it. Propose that law, and let's see where it goes. Otherwise, since you ONLY want to target Muslims, you're just being xenophobic and bigoted, as usual.
If you're still really this upset about who attacked us on 9/11, why do you support Fox News? They are, after all, partly owned by the Saudi royal family, and it was Saudis who were the vast majority of the 9/11 hijackers. Seems you'd have a beef with them before you would anyone else. Thing is, Rappy posts up his opinion, calls it "fact", and says there can be no debate about any of this. So I, rebel that I am, say, "No, there IS a debate about this, and here's why...", and than I post up several FACTS, all cited and well-sourced and part of the very public record, to which Rappy's standard (and only, really) response is along the lines of "Those are all lies, pure fabrications, end of story, you have no case, and besides, you're too stupid to speak to, and your mother smelt of elderberries..."
So I'm not allowed to disagree with his OPINION, but he's free to dismiss readily-verifiable FACTS, and if questioned on these facts that he refuses to acknowledge, his response is basically to stick his fingers in his ears and yell "I can't hear you! LALALALALALALALALALALAALLAA!"
So yes, I'll ask him just to not respond to me at all, if that's the only response he's got. He clearly isn't able to refute the facts, and has no interest in a rational discussion based on facts.
Newt Gingrich has called - several times - for restriction of First Amendment rights, be they free speech OR freedom of religion, or both. Newt Gingrich and several others, including Congressman Peter King, HAVE called for a deep investigation into who is donating money to a church, based SOLELY on the religious beliefs of the members of that church - something they would scream bloody murder about if anyone ever suggested that maybe someone should investigate THEIR funding (as witness their reaction to Nancy Pelosi's modest suggestion to do just that...). These people and more have tried to hold this land up as "sacred" or "hallowed" ground - yet were completely happy to leave it dilapidated, unused, unwanted, and uncared-for for the last 8 years, and have made no move at all to "hallow" any of the other ground in the area, whether it be the "sacred" strip club across the street, the "holy" Burger King which directly overlooks Ground Zero, or the "hallowed" off-track betting parlor on the same block.
The only time they gave two shits about the abandoned Burlington Coat Factory building - or anything in the area (notice that gargantuan hole in the ground where NOTHING stands? That's the REAL Ground Zero, NINE YEARS LATER!) - was when someone decided that the urban blight in the area was becoming overbearing and was a desecration of the memories of all those of all faiths who had died that horrible day almost a decade ago, and they decided to step up and actually do something positive for the neighborhood by building a community center with a pool, a gym, basketball courts, and more, which would be open to all, but which would contain - GASP! - a small "prayer room" so that people who follow Islam would have a handy place for their daily prayers. All they asked in return was the city's permission to build their dream - permission which was unanimously given.
So much for the idea of letting the local and state governments have any say in what goes on in their area...
