Okay. . .here's what I'm thinking.
I have the luxury of being friends with a guy what owns a really nice theatre. Old classic 'movie house' style. Mostly shows Indie films. . .mainstream stuff, not so much.
Here's what I project as being a strong possibility.
This guy will see the appeal to his wallet and go with the notion of premiering the movie in his place. . .I can go from fanboard to fanboard and post invitations. . .arrange for advance ticket sales, stuff like that. . .
I'm thinking in additionto the pre-movie party at a nearby hotel or somesuch before heading to the theatre for the BDM itself. . .once we GET to the theatre while we've got all these people sitting impatientlyl for the house lights to dim, etc, etc. . .someone's gonna have words. We know this. Might be me, might not.
What else can we do to liven the evening?
Costume contests?
'Best Scene Recreation' contests?
Anything like that?

Best singing contest.
Best In-character acting, for scene recreation.
I'd hold a Firefly marathon in my house, then go see the movie, then back for another party.
Before all that, I'd arrange tickets and seats.

I like the idea of a pre-premiere party somewhere. Maybe somewhere we can mingle, maybe get something to eat, and drinks (mudder's milk) for those who are of a mind.
We can then have a convoy over to the movie. Words prior to the movie are fine w/ me. Then heading somewhere to mingle, talk about the movie, and more drinks for those who care for them would be great.
I think a costume contest would be a great idea, and would get more people into the spirit of the show and the movie. It would also draw attention for the movie and get people curious.
A trivia game might be fun as well. The Firefly quotes knowledge game would be fun as well.
Scene recreations can be fun if you have a group working together, or you could do it spontaneously picking people at random or choosing names out of a hat to play random parts.
There are lots of ways we could have fun w/ this, and it would give all of us a chance to meet in person finally. There could be picture taking and the like to post here in the Blue Sun Room of the BDMPs Browncoats hold all over the country.

Mighty shiny notion there, Static! If there's any way I can schlep down there (North Carolina, yes?) from Philly, I'll make it happen.
Another thought: perhaps some charitable drop-box in honor of Lux?
Just out of curiosity (audiofoole question): how's the sound in your friend's moovie haus? I could see this production having some really spiffy sound design, with ample use of surrounds, and some deep bass (not in space, of course!), and the right sound rig could go a long way. Not that this would stop me from attending if it's not Dolby/THX/DTS/etc. But it would be really nice.
Anyway, do keep us posted as the day approaches.

Yes, we should. In memory of Lux, one of the biggest fans ever.

I don't know. I think a simple meet-and-greet, eat-and-drink, Firefly marathon party would do. I like the idea of having it at a hotel. If I remember a similar post some time ago, this theater is in Raleigh? If that's the case, people who have sleeping bags and don't mind mild discomfort can crash at my place for free. Firefly fans can't be psychos, can they?

Hey, there's a notion (albeit 'bout a year premature, but worth filing for future reference): Carpools for people along different routes to Raleigh.
I'd take as many from Philly and thereabouts as can fit in a Pontiac Vibe.
Browncoat convoys. The more I think of it, the more I like it!

Or, we can do like some of us down here in Florida do when we go to DragonCon in the fall... Everyone chip in to rent a van or two and pile in!

Great idea, Static. I would love to meet all you browncoats in person. Personally I would rather have more time meeting and greeting, and chatting face-to-face and save the watching for the BDM, but that's just me.
I like the carpool/rent-a-van ideas too.
Are there any campgrounds near Raleigh? Cause we could make it a weekend event, especially if a lot of us come from out of town. And camping, or roughing it, is in keeping with the theme...
