I know a few people that have worked in the industry. All of them had crappy childhoods. None of them had anything I would recognise as healthy self esteem. Most of them had been chronically abused, all of them believed working in the business would somehow make them more powerful because it allowed them to "control" who could have sex with them. They told me of others doing it just for the fame and the attention. None of the people I knew doing this stuff ever talked about the money they made or it being the only job they could get.
