Anyone here remember the first (& only REALLY good season) of this politically centerist & hi-tek cold war series?
Geeze, I love that Andrew Probert (Trek TMP) redesign of the Bell 222 helicopter. And the writing was phenomenal for the time. Too bad it was abandoned to mediocrity in the second season due to Jan Michael-Vincent's increasing alcohol problem- it might have reached even higher storytelling plateaus than the excellent first season...

I agree, it was fun when it started, then got kind of repetitious especially with evil foreign agents. So many TV stars from that time seemed to have self destructed, and are no longer even in the business if they lived. It's a relief to see so many of our BDH's so emotionally stable.

Oh how I loved this series as a kid! My dad and I use to watch this religiously when it first aired, and I have to admit to owning all 3 of the available seasons on DVD (though I doubt the truly mediocre 4th season will be available any time soon
)And yeah...it was truly was ahead of its time, in that the hero wasn't blatantly pro-American and it portrayed Vietnam War vets in a good light. At least for the most part, sine I do recall a couple of episodes having war buddies of String's be the villain. But still, definitely centrist in the political leanings...seems to be a general trend with Bellasario productions.
Interesting to note, Jan-Michael Vincent's most recent credit was 2002 (according to IMDb), but looking at the filmography? Nothing top-calibre there except maybe his guest shot on "Nash Bridges" and that was for like all of 5 minutes for an alleyway confrontation with Don Johnson. Powerful stuff from what I remember, if only for how burned out he looked

I own the first three seasons although I have to agree that the first is easily the best, the second is watchable, the third is poor with JMV appearing drunk most of the time.
If I have to mention the so called 'fourth season' then it's only to say you are better to ignore that it even exists. Different cast, multiple re-used aerial shots, extremely lame acting that starred Barry Van Dyke and Gerant Wynn Davies, which should be enough to put anyone off.
Airwolf itself was also the best of the super vehicles. It looked cool, was fast, could outgun and outfly most other aircraft plus it had the howling sound when it arrived to make enemies crap themselves. Good stuff.

But JMV was drunk during most of "Firestorm." Ironically it concerned a drunken friend of Dom's...
"Moffett's Ghost" started out cool, but ended very silly.
"Condemned" was almost good...
See, EVERY episode of the first season was great, and JMV hadn't started drinking on the set yet.

Another one of those actors who could have gone places under different circumstances.
I remember him pre-Airwolf in Big Wednesday. It was a pretty good surfing movie that showed he had some potential.
The show could have developed a lot more into something really classic instead of a great start and then....well you know the rest.
