No insult taken, constructive criticism is always good. I'm not saying this effort would directly get us a sequel (or even a squeakquel) but it would be an impressive show of force in terms of how many browncoats it would take to get something like that into the top searches, especially when it comes to an eight year old show and five year old movie.
I think as much as we could hope for it to bring in more browncoats, it could definitely bring more existing browncoats into the internet community fold, potentially making future grassroots efforts more potent. Think about. I've recruited all of my family and friends and they all love the show, but I'm the only one who takes part in online fan communities. I hear all the time from people on this site that they're giving the show to their friends and family too. That means there are probably a lot of people out there that love Firefly and Serenity but aren't actively telling Universal brass about their desire to see a sequel. They may not check fan sites to find out about movements like the blue gloves thing but I bet a lot of these people use searches engines and their interest would be peaked if they saw the phrase "Serenity 2" in yahoo's trending now. Then they click on it and it trends even more.

ah i see thats pretty damn good idea. how many do you reckon still watch this site? Would it be enough to make an impact on the internet search engines? it would have to be a big effort, which is never usually an issue for browncoats. hmmm

Well, he's going to be pretty tied up with The Avengers for the next couple years. But then, if it makes money (as it is very likely to), he'll be in a far, far better position to resurrect his baby.
