i think a nice inside joke would be the crew sitting down at the table for chow, but it's a 'mystery meal' based on River's de-labling of some cans(the name of the ep escapes me at the moment)

A swipe at the FOX executives. Subtle, blunt, anything'll do.

Hmm.. how about mentioning something about how foxes no longer exist? The line could be something similar to what Inara said in "Safe" when she scoffed at the wood carving of a duck.

I love some of these ideas. LOVE them.

But one thing that worries me is my memories of the '96 tv movie of Doctor Who, where they played to the core fans SO much that they lost everyone else. From that point, I'd settle for no inside jokes to have more good Firefly.

If they put them in GREAT; just keep them in balance.

Hey, come to think on it, that abysmal Doctor Who movie was on F@X, and had a lot of network exec influence...Gorram F@X can mess up anything.

Something along the lines of Mal's "I'm not going to punch him---I'm over that phase." in "War Stories" would be nice.

I think a few indside jokes will be fine as long as plot points don't hinge on them. Quiet, off to the side... heck, it'd be kind of neat if they were so subtle that some old fans didn't catch all of them. Then you could feel totally justified seeing it again and again and again - just to be sure you'd caught them all.

I'm all for the button. Also, someone could be humming "The Hero of Canton" while they work.

Maybe a reaction shot from Jayne as they space someone, or a crewdog saying that they are tired of apples.

"We are exporting democracy becuase we have all of this unused democracy lying around at home. Why not make some money doing it?"

How about a fox sneaks aboard the ship when they are planetside and causes all kinds of grief getting into the food, defecating in odd places, scaring folks. The crew can take turns cursing at the fox. Jayne can spent a little time trying to hunt it down. When they finally get rid of the fox, Mal could casually mention that the gorram fox almost destroyed his ship.

I'd be rolling in the aisles.
