Boromir also said that the One Ring could not corrupt true-hearted men. I'd treat his claims with some caution.

well those gigantic black gates full of orcs and the hazardous "path" that Frodo & Co chooses to walk kinda lends belief to the notion that Boromir actually knew what he was talking about in that particular subject..

I guarentee that anyone who walked up alone to those gigantic black gates and simply asked to be let in, would have been immediately allowed to walk in to Mordor.
Perhaps not to whichever part of Mordor he wanted to go to, but he would certainly have ended up in Mordor...

If they did that, they would not be able to interrogate you. There is obviously something abnormal about someone who wants to get in to Mordor, and the Dark Tower will want to know what that abnormality is.

Soorry if i am a little off topic here, just need to get this little rant out o my system :BIGGRRIN
yeah that got me a little too, I mean in the LOTR-movie it start with showing this great battle where Man and Elves gives the orcs of mordor a serious popo-kicking, and the stories of the great battles in Silmarillion and another seemed to suggest that many of the battles go pretty well for the good guys, unless either dragons or Balrogs are pressent too, why did it so seem that the elves(that i know was not mentioned in the book)that help defend Helms Deep along with some humans, seems to make quite a few errors, I like an example why not make the cloud of death(lots and lots of arrows) or make a charge right into the spears after the wall has been blown, or in fact sent a few of the elves to the Keep to tell keep the gate open, while the majoritty of the does an orderly retreat back to the keep(retreating but fireing back at the enemy at the same time
