What scenes are the heart of Firefly?

Basically all are great, but what scenes really sum up the overall spirit of Firefly? I have a few:

-Safe/Kaylee wants to pick out a present for Simon, moments later Simon enters the store and verbally destroys what she thought of buying him. The hurt, and fragile look on her face is priceless. Truly a heartbreaking moment.

-Jaynestown/The dialog between JAyne, and Mal at the end of the episode. Big props to Ben Edlund. Another genius writer(creator of the Tick) who isn't as nearly as popular as Joss..but should be. Amazing.

-Serenity(part 1)/The opening scene in which you see Mal's soul get crushed..."they're not comin". The Browncoats lose, and after we get a very bitter Malcolm Reynolds.

In The TrainJob

Mal kicking the guy in the engine. His regret at having to do it. Then the second guy caving in.

Ariel

Mal hitting Jayne with the wrench. Going to space him. Giving him another chance when Jayne says don't tell anyone what I did.

Out of Gas

Dinner table happy scene. Then Fire. River seeming to sense the Fire before it happens. Zoe pushing Kaylee out of the way. Mal shutting the door in the face of a giant fireball coming at him.

The heart? I'd have to say there are three moments that sum up the series and which are also very moving, uplifting, and/or just awesomely cool.

1) Safe. "You're on my crew."

2) In the pilot. Mal: "We're still flying." Simon: "That's not much." Mal: "It's enough."

3) Safe. "Big Damn Heroes, sir."

Honorable mentions:

Pilot. Simon (affectionately, to grateful River): "Well, you're a dummy."
-Reason not included: redundant, already have the "crew is a family" aspect up there.

Safe. Simon climbs up onto the pyre with River.
-Reason not included: Same.

Technically, the honourable mentions tend to tug at my heartstrings more than my actual selections, but I was going for what in general sums up the show.

It's also strange that these are mostly from the pilot and Safe, which are excellent entries, but neither one is my favourite episode (Out of Gas).

Inara: Why would I want to leave Serenity?

(Camera pans to cargo bay full of cattle.)

Mal: Can't think of a reason.

Pilot epi : Jayne - "anyone you can walk away from.. I call that a win".
Mal - "yeah....we win..."
that scene instantly captured the mood of the series..underdogs...even their best n brightest moments aren't....well...too bright

Our Mrs. Reynolds: actually the tie-in across Shepard Books "Special Hell"
it represents what I like best about these stories...they do such a great job of threading the script to really make one liners count later in the show. Special hell was fantastically delivered by Book..and it was funny when he did it..but then to be able to drop it in right in the heat of passion just brought it all home.

Safe: The Big Damn hero scene in it's entirety. It was a nice interplay between Mal and Z and then Mal's delivery and description of Jayne hanging out the cargo door.

Those who did not see Firefly when it was first broadcast miss the irony in that line. Serenity (the pilot) was the last episode FOX aired before lowering the boom, so those were the last words we heard until the DVDs came out.

There are two particular scenes that have a special meaning for me. At the end of "Out of Gas" when Mal asks if they would be there when he woke up, then the scene fades to his memory of when he first laid eyes on his ship.

The other is from "Safe" when River consoles Simon about the fact that when he found her she was broken, and that he gave up everything he had to help her. "No, mei mei. Everything I have is right here."
