The 80s were an awesome time to grow up (not like I've ever really "grown up," but, y'know).
Robotech, Transformers, G.I. Joe, Thundercats, Silverhawks, Galaxy Rangers, Wheeled Warriors, Ghostbusters, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Droids, Ewoks, He-Man, She-Ra, Jem (yes, I watched She-Ra and Jem. Girls kick ass. Says so on a T-shirt).
The first "real" (non toy-commercial, non mecha-based) sci-fi I got into was Star Wars (though more via the then-nascent Expanded Universe than the Trilogy). The first TV sci-fi I got hooked on was TNG. I've been both a Trekkie and a Star Wars fan for as long as I can remember.

We didn't get our first TV until around '56 or '57, and depending on the time of year that was I would have been 6 or 7 (born in Sept. 1950). As for genre shows, the first I can recall was Twilight Zone, then Outer Limits, plus from roughly the same era I was a big fan of Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Thriller, One Step Beyond, etc. I've heard of Men Into Space but don't recall if I ever saw it, nor do I remember seeing Science Fiction Theater, and other things in the early 50s like Tom Corbett: Space Cadet would have been before we became a TV family.

I have an AWFUL memory, so I have no idea what I grew up on, but I just wanted to say how amazing it is, that I was born in 1989 (yeah, youngun, quiet), and yet I too love watching Twilight Zone. It all looks old and whatnot, sure, but some of the great stories and twists and stuff that they have are brilliant. I'll admit I got into it because of my love for Richard Matheson, but grew to love a lot of it.

yep...born '56 so it was the Outer Limits that first warped my lil brain.
didn't really see the old Ming in action til I was well into Junior high and they'd play an episode before the main flick on the saturday late night Chiller Theater...you'd get a dose of Flash Gordon, and then a couple hours of flesh eating zombies...saturdays rocked dude!!
lest we also forget saturday mornings... Fireball XL-5 with Steve Zodiac and Robert the marionette robot..and Super Car and Johnny Quest...life was simple...now it seems flesh eaters have to have a reason...hence Reavers.
